I exported a 3do to obj with upspring, slapped a 128*128 elmo square plane under (centered to origin) it with wings3d, and then ao baked it in xNormal.

The result is misaligned :( Any tips why?

Left has bake, right doesnt.

Turn off shadows. It doesn't look like it's misaligned though, just very oversized, and (imo) much much too blurred.

The plate:

Of course the plate doesnt look exactly like this, since the color channel is all black, and the alpha channel has the inverse of the posted image. But the dimensions are unchanged.

Solved: I was using /give to place the unit, and didnt know it would place with perfect accuracy. (meaning it can place under the 16 elmo resolution).

Thanks masse!
Here is the pic of the effect. Its very subtle, but looks great.
Fusions on left have ao baked ground, right is normal fusions.

yup looks good,

The only negative point is that you need to make the grounddecal texture disapear instantly if the building is destroyed and I suppose it'll give a strange visual effect since the wreckage will have basicly the same shape near the ground but no ground AO anymore.

even though it looks good it makes little sense to have shadows from the side where the light comes from

i like to think of it more as dirt than a shadow.
