Hey guys just wanted to ask can you possibly make a new LAN server so its easier to use.

I dont know how to use the one thats up now, its just to dam complicated well for me anyways.

we need something we can just click into and connect to with one click instead of mucking around with all those batch files and other crap like that.

It's really not that hard... Double click LanServer.bat on the server machine. Then set all the clients to connect to the server's network IP in the options menu (such as 192.168.1.1 or whatever it may be), and play...

Are you sure you have the computers hooked together right? Can windows see the LAN connection? Can you ping each computer from the other?

Yes because we also play other games such as generals, Tribes vengence, and Dawn of war and they all work fine.

i can connect to the local host server fine but when others try it just wont do it.

Well duh, you don't choose localhost on the clients. On the other PCs (non-server), you put in the network IP of the machine that is acting as the server. The IP is generally something like 192.168.0.1 or something to that effect. You can get this IP by going to start-->run-->type "cmd"-->type "ipconfig" and finding the IP address for your network interface there.

Maybe someone should put this in the wiki, it's not the first time this has come up.

yeah ok well all i am asking is if you guys can make a New LAN program so it will be easier for some of us that dont know what to do.

It just looks like an awful making around just to get a LAN going like on other games its not much mucking around at all in this there is unless there was an easier solution that i dont know about yet.

I oppoligise for being a pain but all i am asking if this can be done if it cant thats fine.

Sorry, but thats so off-topic here it isn't funny. First: that doesnt work normally. It can work, but you need a special (usually yellow or red, but can be any color) "Crossover" cable. Then you need to manually configure both machines properly (IP, subnet mask, gateway IP, etc.)...

Stuff that seems far far far beyond your capabilities. Why not just use some $10 piece of hardware that has a switch and does DHCP?

This isn't some commercial game you paid $50 for, its an open-source project which is in beta. The current server with its "batch files and other crap like that' is almost absurdly easy to use. I was flabbergasted the first time I tried it- I thought 'no way, it cant just work when you double click one file! Thats way too easy!'.

Actually I think learning how to do Spring-style mexx placement is more difficult then learning to run the TASServer...

I disagree with Zaphod, at this stage I really think people who are at this level would best be advised to steer clear of Spring. At least until it is at full fledged release, and maybe not even then.

I mean this guy is saying 'Im too lazy to click more than one thing to play Spring- you guys need to go rewrite the program so I don't have to'...

Umm... I'm a helpful guy[when Im not busy being an ass ]. I've many times been patient and helped people figure out how to get hosting. That is a relatively simple process that probably shouldn't require much help ("just forward 8452 UDP to your machine"), but it is significantly more complicated then the issue this guy is having. If every single person used the exact same ISP & router maybe it would be...

I mean we're basically talking about someone who is too lazy to right click their network icon in the taskbar right? This isn't magic...

Sorry, but i must be you who have problem.

I can use lanServeur.bat without problem.
Are you sure you know how to use it?
What is the error on your computer's friend?
What have you try/make to make it working?

ok this is what we done.

i ran the LanServer.bat

then i ran the local host on the Ta battle room donno if thats correct.

TheLanServer reconised that i connected to the local host so i assumed thats fine.

when he tried to connect it just kept saying Error cannot connect or something like.

Maybe i am doing it all wrong maybe i am using the wrong program. The Lan cords and everything else is fine all i need to know is what i am doin wrong.

What do you write in the box "server adress" in the option?
(on the computer of your friend?)

You must write the IP adress of the host, or his computer's name.
