Empires, a free mod for the Source engine (needs an orange box game)

It's pretty cool, I just started playing it, having not really played much fps in years. Anyone feel like hopping in?

It is really hard to get excited for a
FPS/RTS genre game when NS2
is coming soon and has an engine test version out.

NS2 is probably still about 6 months out. So give Empires a try.

Empires sux, its better to play NS1 than empires.
And there are many RTS/FPS blends - savage, battlezone, etc

I've been waiting for this game so long that Im thrilled to see it in live action. Im also actually quite happy to see - even though it might seem a bit funny - that the bunnyhopping element has been preserved because it really was a big part of the gameplay of NS1

I never understood the fun of it beyond the initial concept...Maybe I'll like NS2.

The only FPS/RTS hybrid that ever held my attention was Battlezone, since in that game you get to be both commander and soldier at the same time, since the rest of your army is AI.

I still think the battlezone series was best.
I liked the BZ2 engine..It allowed for crazy maneuvers with units..
Battlezone 2 is still played in multi today.

I don't think NS comes anywhere close to Empires for the actual RTS element, let alone the team play. They are really rather different games.

Since I dont know empires you are prolly right about the RTS side of view. NS is FPS more than RTS. Whatsoever I've actually ever played so intense teamplay game than NS, but maybe that's because I played NS in one of the top clans when the scene were active and the teamplay were essential.

I'd try this cos Imo it looked interesting but im afraid I wont have time for it...

I just had a game on Empire, i really like this :D
I like the idea of their being a commander to let the team know what to do
And.. for now.. im happy to let someone else be commander ;)

I played a bit of Empires LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG ago, back when it was just released.

A commander could be useful for any team based FPS, in Section 8 it would be nice to have someone who's in charge of allocating people to tasks and can make sure someone is getting that convoy home without having everybody cluster around it and let the enemy steal the intel.
