nota needs auto-host

nota needs an auto-host...

this might not make up for the lack in interest for the mod(imo, thu it can increase interest)...but it will make setting up games easier for people who are already into this....

god this needs some major promo....

if someone has the time to do this i would give him or her a shell account @ my server
(debian lenny(not sure :) ), hardware + connection should be enough for many hosts)

I've set up a NOTA autohost for you (Nitrogen), it inherited the admin list from the XTA autohost. I can add a top level admin from the NOTA community who can then add more admins, but I need to know who the appropriate person would be.

thx alot.....

i'd prefer that it would have no admins and no one person get more decision making power over the other...then again, i'am new to the nota community so my opinion in the matter has little weight

This is excellent, thank you for setting it up det.
Its having an effect i think, NOTA is at 5.65% of play today, up from its usual share of 2-3%.

Why stop there? Try out SpringDownloader and tell new people about it. It does all the work to get people into Nota games (most particularly on the autohost). Step 1: click on the big thumbnail that says Nota. Step 2: Click on Join a Battle. That's it!

i have to agree with law. personally 8v8 means theres a majority of guys who mess up a lot and will mean wasting teching time manuevering to cover for the team. personally it also means i have to obey the whims of "certain people" when i feel perfectly safe with a defensive line made so the rest of the team can concentrate on one side specifically. So technically speaking there will be uncooperatives, and worse :cry: people who completely ignore everything.

Edit: most people are uncooperative with the tactical conecpt of the game itself. most of the few willing to try the game are driven away by the simplicity and difficulty at the same time. I remember trademark complaining that destroyers completely raped subs (this was back in the torpedo volly days :twisted: ).

Edit 2: one good thing about 8v8 is that you can screw around knowing the rest of your team will back you up, and then play serious towards the end of the game :mrgreen:

I am against 8v8 in all mods bar nota.
In nota however it is totally fucking epic.

Players can Spawn their own host by PMing NOTA's "Nitrogen" host which is found in the #nota channel

example: !spawn mod=nota:version:1.66, title=Party

The example will creates a host for nota version 1.66 and the description for the game will the "Party"

"!help and !helpall" will list the hosts commands

The player who spawns the host has control of it at !boss level.

Hostable versions at present:
nota:latest (NOTA v1.66)
nota:revision:1 (NOTA test-1)
nota:stable (NOTA v1.632)
nota:test (NOTA test-1)
nota:version:1.61 (NOTA v1.61)
nota:version:1.62 (NOTA v1.62)
nota:version:1.631 (NOTA v1.631)
nota:version:1.634 (NOTA v1.634)
nota:version:1.64 (NOTA v1.64)
nota:version:1.65 (NOTA v1.65)
nota:version:1.66 (NOTA v1.66)

Thor, there was a way for you to seed new versions through a browser but I have lost record of it :/

If you have Zero-K lobby you just click "open new game" and it will spawn for you..

As for new versions - start ZKL with version present in mods and upload it to rapid.
