A long time ago (well, actually not so long ago), in a computer far, far away (haaa, actually not that far away), i was learning Esperanto.

I was taking an online course at http://www.lernu.net and it was nice. I had some nice lessons with tests that would be sent to real people who would correct them and make coments to you as well as help you out.
In there you have lots of resources to get you started with Esperanto or to just go give a simple look at how it works and looks. You can start a profile that will keep track of what lessons you've already taken and which one you haven't.

On top right, you have a language selection tool to access the web site in your own language (it has many available).
On the left, you'll have the links Enkonduko (introduction) and Kursoj (courses).

There are other nice places for Esperanto. So, if anyone else has other good links for Esperanto, go right ahead and share them.

I'll give a quick tour at some things about Esperanto.

Esperanto is a language easy to learn because many of it's words are similar to the ones you already know. If you speak English and another language, like many at these forums, you'll find alot of words familiar.

Similar to English:
Birdo - Bird
Jes - Yes (read the J like the Y)
Havas - To Have
...

Similar to the descendants of Latim:
Lakto - Milk
Akvo - Water
...

Similar to all known (to me) european languages:
Ne:
English- No
French- Non
Spanish- No
Portuguese- Não
German- Nein
Polish- Nie
Russian- Niet(?)

Also, the grammar is always consistent, not having exceptions. And the translation from sounds to letters is always the same so, if you see anything writen in Esperanto, you know for sure how it is spelled.

Ne:
Dutch- Nee

I don't think I will ever find the time to learn Esperanto - but I do like the idea.
Maybe if other people start talking Esperanto here I will learn it and join in.
