Is this our first CHEATER or a severe bug?

I was playing a game of XTA on Small Divide with kb9qkc against Tanelorn and Purpura. The game seemed normal until about 15-20 minutes into the game. Tanelorn's units fell under the control of kb9qkc!!! Tanelorn did not say a word to kb9qkc or me. He just logged off two minutes after his units went under kb9qkc's control!

I have known kb9qkc, Kyle, for a very long time. We played Doom together when it was popular. I KNOW that he doesn't cheat. In fact, he was playing on my spare PC next to mine, about 3 feet away. He brought no floppies or CDs with him as far as I know, and he was deep in the battle when Tanelorn's units switched sides.

The game kb9qkc and I played before this one had Tanelorn in it, and just as he started to lose, the game crashed. Kb9qkc said that Tanelorn probably crashed the game, but I said that crashes happens randomly. I did have to admit that it saved Tanelorn in that game though. So I had a slight suspicion of Tanelorn.

Then this incident happened. It happened shortly after I beat Tanelorn to making a plasma cannon in the center. My plasma cannon destroyted his plasma cannons under construction. He did not really have an attacking force either. He seemed idle. Then his units came under kb9qkc's control and kb9qkc proceeded to bomb Tanelorn's commander which is now under kb9qkc's control, which popped!

I saved the demo, because I thought it would help in finding out how this was done. The demo was made in 0.63b1, but played fine in 0.63b2 when I tested it today.

I believe this is a serious exploit or bug, and I hope others do as well.

It's quite possible that he had just given up.

I suppose he could have, but know of no way that you can give your units to enemy players like that.

I would say its a bug. I watch the replay twice and I didn't
see him select all units and give to the other team.
If you watch it, as soon as he lost connect. All this units went
to another player.

Wasn't there any new code added, if a connection was lost
the units could be taken by a allie? Maybe something in the
new code caused this ... player loses connection and the units
got geiven to another player ..? Does that sound possible?

.cheat .take?

I dunno if unit sharing works yet...

It does, and you dont need the .cheat's turned on either. It works at anytime that there are spare units on your team. Its possible that this happened, but it shows up in chat whenever someone types it, so you would have noticed.

Possibly a bug, but it sounds alot like pretty standard unit sharing to me. Maby timing out caused an unwanted share command somewow?

Yeah, he probably accidentally clicked the wrong name, or did not click a name, in the sharing menu (H).

You can't see which units a player selects when viewing replays.

I did not think of that before.

Issue resolved. It was most likely player error.

If the enemy has severely beat you because of nanostalling, raiding, or by using unbalanced units like brawler swarms or goliaths, and you know the next hour of play will be pointless, then just transfer all your units over to the enemy and the game will be over much quicker for everyone. Congradulations, you win, next game please.

I was on a lame laggy 1000000x unit Core Prime Industrial that everyone was lagging on, nobody especially enjoyed, and the host who was not lagging had made 10x krogoths and broke through our lines. Well it was over. We could hold out because of dragon teeth walls and other meager defenses but the game was over. The enemy had 100000x metal and 10000x energy and 10000x farks making 10000x brawlers and goliaths and krogoths and buzzsaws and intimidators and nukes. The game was over.

But even with the horrible lag due to massive unit counts, and even knowing that we could never get enough of an army going to push back, the 3 players on my side chose to hang out for the next several hours and watch their stuff get blown up. Well I actually value my time to I transferred my units over to the enemy so they had a direct route into the bases.

Why waste hours on a game you've already lost? If it's a challenging fight that's one thing. But when you see the massive brawler swarm on radar, or you see 10000x moho mines and 10000x fusions while you and your teammates are still working on your second fusion, you know it's over. I'd rather play a game where there's a possibility that either side can win. Once the balance turns completely to one team or another, then the game is already won/lost.

Why did you not transfer them to the players on your side?
They enjoyed the game and you decided the game had no value for you anymore as you could not win it.
I think that's lame on itself, but if you have little time... alright, your choice.
But giving your units away to the enemy and quiting is just pathetic IMO.

Actually... I would like to point out that I only do this in Free for alls, and only when all my movable units are dead already...

When you've already lost, all there is left is to watch your stuff get blown up. So you get to see even more of that when this happens. How is that bad?

you seriously dont think thats bad?
Some people have different oppinions about when they think the game is lost (some whine and give up when they spot the first brawler on the horizon).

And ruining it for them isnt nice.

Also, when you give you base to the enemy, you see LESS stuff blow up. because the enemy doesnt destroy it now....

tanelorn that is pretty lame! but on CPIA i really can't blame you, if i am forced to watch/play that STUPID map i set the unit limit to 250ish =) makes it vaguely fun for the ppl who play i hope O,o
