just found out about it, and it's absolutely made of pure awesome. fonts need to be prettier (all caps is ugly) but very, very well done otherwise.

I suggest making it bigger.
If the menu is bigger its harder to make mistakes when choosing what to build.

agreed. extremely awesome widget. i love you licho.

now all we need is a hotkey to select the last built structure again, hint hint :D

I love the concept and it looks good and works well sometimes... but I find it really doesn't play nice with the SHIFT key for me. It's always been a problem - first it was the "don't hold alt and click" behavior, now it's "don't tap alt and then shift-click".

Its not meant to be pie menu - its meant to be gesture recognition, but ALT makes it kind a hard..

Basically hold ALT and make rectangular shape - like right, top (for nano). Then release ALT. Scales of shape wont matter.

i was confused by "don't click on the icons". it wasn't very intuitive that they're not clickable, might want to revisit that part. maybe show a "don't click, let alt go" message or something.

There are two ways to use it:

1) Newbie way. Tap alt, make gesture, click on icon. (right click makes menu disappear.)

2) Vet way. Hold alt, make gesture, release alt.

(Note that I set up the alt key usage, but Licho disagrees with me, he prefers rightbutton-drag. We are still always looking for a solution.)

The "hold ALT, click left -> menu gone nothing selected"
and
"you must release shift before another selection"
things are both bugs - they were introduced by Car's change to ALT.

omfg yeah i was wondering what happened to right button drag. that was much better whats the point of mouse gestures if you have to use the keyboard. Every switch between the keyboard and the mouse takes time. Dont confuse me by making me do both. It was hard enough learning to play spring without a mouse....

rclick-based mouse gestures means breaking line-move and customformations.

If you want a button, you need a mouse with more buttons. The big three (l, r, m) are already used for too much.

Personally, I would've used the "B" key instead of Alt, but either way, I like the new system (once the shift and alt+click bugs are fixed in Stable - are they now?).

I have to agree with Tribulex on this one; pie menu was much better on the mouse, although I guess it can't be helped because it seems there were many people who found it conflicting with move orders.

holding alt down shouldnt slow anyone down at all? Youre supposed to keep 1 hand in that area anyways - what else would you be clicking at that time...

Holding alt slows me a lot compared to just moving mouse around while holding RMB..
Also its not breaking anything fundamental with custom formation, it just changes default command if you have multiple workers selected.

Now if you have 3 workers and hold right click, you can draw formation.
With menu it would show build options and if you want to move workers in formation you have to press M and then hold right mouse to draw it.

What if you have 20 workers and one flea selected? Should rightdrag make customformation-move or buildmenu?

What if you have 20 tanks and one worker selected? Should rightdrag make customformation-move or buildmenu?

In either case, I have to pay attention to exactly what I have selected and think whether I need to press the M before the right-drag.

Why would you select a con and 20 tanks??
Thats highly artificial.. or cons and flea..

If you selected it, its on purpose and therefore you are aware of it.
If not, right drag will remind you. Its highly unlikely that you WANT to move order fleas + con together in custom formation.

And not just "order" - you can issue move order to 20 fleas and con easilly.. we are talking just about custom formation order..

Not that artificial: When I build different units they all move to a gathering point (or units at front etc.). Cherry picking all cons there takes time. Just select all and give build order is faster. Works with springs build menu.

Well that will work exactly same :)
You will select group, give gesture build order, done..

Hint: you can use select keys to pick next idle con etc ..

New approach: disable rclick altogether, all units get radial menus! Radial menus for orders, not just building! Radial menus for reclaim/terraform/etc. Radial menus for guard/move/fight. Radial menus for jump and boost and dgun! Double-rclick for the "default" command mode, and double-rclick-drag for customformation-move.

/no, not really.
