Some finnish music - Amorphis

I don't actually listen or like much of metal music, even though we finns are widely respected in metal music field and therefore I as a finn should be a big time fan of this field.

However - since you are not interested of hearing my classical or progressive music affection - I decided to introduce you one band that Ive always liked.

It's very melodic and bombastic progressive/folk metal:

They frequently use the Kalevala, the Epic Poem of Finland, as a source for their lyrics.

Sampo is a magical artifact from finnish mythology that gives you good fortune and knowledge. However there still hasn't been found consensus among the researches of folklore studies of what this object really was or what it really meant.

Here is a painting of Sampo forging by Akseli Gallen Kallela

And heres something a bit different:

Kantele is a traditional finnish string instrument.

Pff, most of the mainstream "modern metal" is just as derivative boring crap as in rest of the world.

And I dont see why finns should be big time fans of heavy metal just because some crap mediocre bands make it big in the rest of the world. Not aimed at Amorphis though

Dont hate, JohannesH. Finnish metal is just....better.

I have been listening to quite a few Finnish bands lately, including korpiklaani, Turisas, Finntroll, Altaria, GladenFold, and most of the bands in this Video.

Pretty good, they've definitely god some pretty awesome talent. Unfortunately imo, their music is pretty forgettable, in the fact that there isn't much catchyness to it; nothing that really makes me want to listen to them over and over again. Sampo is really pretty, but other than that there isn't much to it. My favorite part of the song was actually the bridge in the middle of it, nothing particularly special, but it did stick out.

In an odd way they reminded me of symphony x : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYm3h_8iNeA : (minus the gawdawful singer - If only he would jsut shut up lol).

Thanks for mentioning this band, I think I quite like them :)

I would just like to stick up for American Metal.. I admit some bands are really quite bad, untalented and uninspired. But some are actually quite good.

Between the Buried and Me :
(Long song, very awesome though)
Swim to the Moon - The Great Misdirect
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_6Dybf024A

and an beautiful quiet interlude between tracks:
Viridian - Colors

Another band that is pretty awesome and original is Porcupine Tree. Look them up if your into prog metal/rock.

EDIT: I forgot Isis, an awesome metal/post-metal/progmetal whatever you want to call them band :)

Imo you're gonna get this everywhere. Nationality has little to do with it.
