TA Paper models

An interesting concept. Take models from TA and Warhammer 40K and make large cardboard scultures from the designs. Also interesting is 3DO builder which is apparently still around and in use. Looks like a predecessor to UpSpring.

Check out this Bulldog made from actual paper

I wouldn't call the 3do builder a predecessor for UpSpring. It simply was OTA's assembly tool which has little to do with UpSpring (which has its flaws with 3dos)...
Apart from that: Yeah - papermodels are quite a cool thing imo. I actually made some from the Super Mario universe...
TA models suffer from not being closed though and especially the K-Bots are like only "complete" from a top view but lack any "sub-floor"...

i once made the protoss probe from starcraft as a paper model.
(very simple pdf from internet)
actually i still have a half-finished Countach on my disk, made from printing blueprints (
http://www.the-blueprints.com/) then cutting, glueing, etc then scanning various parts.
I was thinking, if you do not rescale etc. the parts, you could basically make an 3D model as paperfold using the uv map. Just add areas for glue.
But in wings I cant do reference images so thats kind of gay.
That Peperkura software he used looks nice.
Sadly
Registration is $38.
The save and export functions are disabled before registering. Otherwise all functions work without limitation in the shareware version.

I wonder if we ever have one of those movie disasters that send us back to the stone age (like peak oil, dragon attack, robot ninjas, whatever..) whether we'll all be sitting around with our grandchildren teaching them how to play TA with paper models (between sorties to catch rats for dinner and blowing up HKs).

I lolled, a turn based TA. We need rules. Question is tabletop or board?

Table, no doubt. board would be hard to make from rat skins, and too small, too.
Alternatively, we could get together and sit around arguing about trolls, it'll be just as fun as playing!
