springlobby asks me to chose a text editor

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 and I have springlobby version 0.23. When I try to watch a game I get a message like the game crashed. It asks me if I want to open the log file. When I say yes, it says the game crashed because I didn't specify any text editor.
So I went into the Options applet and then the "General" applet and indeed, I see that there's no External text editor specified.
I tried to put Emacs (although I also have gedit) but it didn't work. As I'm also new to Ubuntu, I'd like someone to show what they have as Path there. So that I can almost copy and paste the path of the text editor... and I guess I'm done.

The most extraneous part of it is that I could play a game! So I could enter a game without any crash. Also, once (out of 10 approximately), I could watch a game. So it's a very strange problem.

Thanks for any help.

are you sure it's saying it crashed because you don't have a text editor selected as opposed to saying it can't open the log file because you have no text editor selected?

I'm not sure. I don't really member. I've tried to enter the game and it worked... but I have set the graphics in minimum and I get less than 1 fps and a huge ping, while under windows I have about 100 fps under the same conditions. I guess I should post this problem in another thread. (I've also the problem that springlobby freezes almost 50% of the time, while my cpu usage percentage is less than 5%).
Anyway, do you have a solution to the text editor problem?

ubuntus basic text editor i believe is "gedit"

enter this in the springlobby tab you mentioned and it should work fine.

Code: Select all

gnome-text-editor
also... if you could tell us what hardware you're using... ATI cards tend to be pretty spotty in ubuntu. i have an nVidia card that works very well... spring seems to run faster on ubuntu than vista...

If you havent already, and are using an nvidia card, be sure you have "Nvidia x-server" installed. nothing worked for me before that (also started with ubuntu recently) and then everything was great. can't comment on ATI hardware, i would consult google for further instructions.

*edit* open terminal (its under applications/accessories) and input "glxgears" to test

Ok, thank you very much. I put that into the "Path" line, right under the External text editor applet.

I have a Nvidia Geforce 7300 GS, intel pentium dual core E6300, so 1.9 Ghz. When under windows xp it shows 1.9 Ghz, while under Ubuntu it shows 1.6 Ghz in springlobby.
I never heard about Nvidia x-server. I will google it.

I just realized I have Nvidia X Server settings. Is that ok?
