The freeaddrinfo function was added to the Ws2_32.dll on Windows XP and later. To execute an application using this function on earlier versions of Windows (Windows 2000, Windows NT, and Windows Me/98/95), then you must include the Ws2tcpip.h file and also include the Wspiapi.h file. When the Wspiapi.h include file is added, the freeaddrinfo function is defined to the WspiapiFreeAddrInfo inline function in the Wspiapi.h file. At runtime, the WspiapiFreeAddrInfo function is implemented in such a way that if the Ws2_32.dll or the Wship6.dll (the file containing freeaddrinfo in the IPv6 Technology Preview for Windows 2000) does not include freeaddrinfo, then a version of freeaddrinfo is implemented inline based on code in the Wspiapi.h header file. This inline code will be used on older Windows platforms that do not natively support the freeaddrinfo function.

Solution is simple: setup a build environment for SL: http://springlobby.info/projects/springlobby/wiki/Hack and either disable torrent subsystem or compile libtorrent with _WIN32_WINNT=0x0500 defined
A better solution ofc would be to not use a 10-year old OS

Hi,

@koshi
No problem - if SL relay on importand OS APIs or other functions that not available on Win2000 then it is now dead for W2k.
Have this only at my smallest workstation and only rare in use for play.
Have installed now TASClient, it it runs nice with W2k ...

@KaiserJ
lol - this is not only happen with 15 :P
But at 15 it is a epic fail - now it is only happy and fun - and lets go for the next try ;)

W2K is not even supported by Microsoft anymore, don't expect much. We're all lucky XP still has some support.

Hi,

@imbaczek
this is not a big problem - have only at one of my 4 Workstations W2k
installed.It was a funy lan play night and it was more player as PCs here ;)
So i say "hey,you can play on my little oldest PC (IBM Intellistation), have spring already installed (have last played with 0.79.xx) and i musst only update the exes (spring and springlobby) ...".
My surprise was that now SL dont start anymore ...
It is a lttle bit silly to have an Game (engine) that run under W2k,but the launcher prg (SL) that is prefered by default dont do it .......
(I know - spring have mass over mass on players and we realy dont need
anymore ..[i hope you get the sarcastic note ..] )

@zwzeg
mhhh - no, ;)
The time of W2k is realy over IMHO - and if the game (engine) not run anymore on W2k it is no problem the launcher prg dont run too ..
But the other way around it is silly ...
(and if middle year i buy a wx8400 the little IBM get sold - and so my last W2k install is gone ..)

I know what I do, what I've done since the first WinXP-only game appeared, and what I'll keep on doing, so don't try to tell me that I'm not doing what I know that I do.

The game (engine) does run on W2k, and the day it stops to, I will have to quit.

W2K is my fav OS of all time. I would still use it if it was not for one thing: lack of data compression when hibernating.

And although M$ keeps saying it will not release any security patches for W2K, because it is outdated - the patches just keep coming... I guess this is a strategy to force ppl to upgrade.
