SpringDownloader working now nice ..but ..

Hi,

the actual SD 1.4.0 works nice ;)
But - it crates the mod that he DL only as cluttered files in "pool" ...
It is possible to have a option to re-pack it as a mod file ?
I DL regulary CA and if i like to play it in LAN - it is a bit silly ALL user
musst DL the same files over Internet if one user have the files allready..
Would the mod available as ONE mod file - the sharing is much easyer ..
(and i understand the reason to have it ATM NOT as one mod file - so i suggest a OPTION to build from the many litlle files only IF it needed a mod file ...)

Regards
R-TEAM

It is technically possible to repack. For the moment just zip the pool and packages folders and copy them. Thats enough.

Like 90% of people sign their e-mails even though their name is usually seen in the From address.

this are not email. Email is meant to be like a letter, hence the signing. This is supposed to be more like a conversation or passing notes in class.

Dear R-Team

I personally would not worry about the informalities, but do be aware that the peoples of this forum can be somewhat touchy over the manner in which they converse.

Hi,

and one more thing on the "new" SpringDownloader i dislike ....
The Rapid system is basicaly nice.
I checked by CA the "Test" file and so get all time i connect the last
test version - nice.
But i dislike to stay on disk the old version !
If i need an old version i can check the needed version in "Revision" ...
This is not a problem ATM (the diffs are minnimal) but after 50 revisions
my HD get clutered with many un-used files - and the best, i dont know with the actual system which files belong to which version and is safe to delete if i dont need this version ....
I dont see an option to manage this ... ("stay only x old versions on disk" as example ...)

I plan to implement some cleanup button later that will delete all packages not currently selected.

To be honest, I liked the nice touch of formality signing your posts gave them. Also, now that you aren't doing so, you ... keep ...
posting ...
... like this ...

Consequently, I vouch that the signature makes a comeback! :P

Signatures are nice, but they normally have big images, and tonnes of text, which detracts.

I'd support having those tiny playbar images, or 2 or 4 words of text, but nothing more.

Signatures can't make a comeback, they were banned from the very first day.

However I will boldly propose we try allowing signatures for the first time. I have a vision, Spring Community, of a forum where we can all have totally awesome signatures instead of just putting something snide in the location box.

SpringDownloader tends to work randomly for me. Sometimes it downloads fine. Other times it downloads till it gets to 98, 99 or 100% and then just stops before the last byte of data or whatever. Then other times it just doesn't work at all and gives me a "failed" message as soon as I try to download something.

It does not stop on 99%, it just continues slowly. Its torrent system.
Speed displayed is not current download speed but average speed calculated from completed torrent pieces. Give it some time.

Those that return "failed" instantly are files with not enough mirrors. Typically only file uploaded to jobjol and not on any of its mirrors. Since jobjol blocks torrent downloaders, such file cannot be downloaded.

I'm not sure you can pack up the pool when you have multiple games/mods downloaded. It also breaks dependencies, as we found out with the Pre-M builds of 1944.

If you cannot its engine bug. No reason it should break dependencies. SDP format should work just like ordinary SDZ.

What exactly you did and what happened?

Multiple players had problems with it. The only common factor was their use of SD to download Pre-M v170, I believe. When given actual packages, they were able to run v184 through v210 fine. Nemo would know more.

N.B. v184 through v210 depend on v170 in case that wasn't clear.

On a somewhat related note; I don't sync with my own springie-based autohost. WTF is going on? :(

The dependency is set wrong.

Currently:

Code: Select all

Depend0=S44Pre-M_v170.sd7;
What it should be:

Code: Select all

Depend0=Spring: 1944 Pre-M (v170);

Wrong for SD or wrong for Spring? what we have now works in terms of the game loading etc, so I don't think it is 'wrong' in absolute terms.

that said, if Spring has changed so that dependencies are no longer called explicitly by filename, I'm glad to hear it.
