Spring RTS Engine

I request the ability to join a battle when you don't have the game(mod).

This would reduce the advantages gained from packaging a game(mod) in a map (ala senna's mods) and allow the following:

- reserve your slot in a battle while you are dling.

- enter a battle room and discuss the game(mod) before/while you dl.

why is it different to maps? technical problems?

Please god not more waiting. I like the idea but I think if you do join a game where you don't have the map or mod you should be auto-specced. This allows games to start quicker and stops people from spamming !kick because of somebody who doesn't have the map.

For the less popular mods more active players in room is a bonus regardless of those dling, as it attracts further players. Its quicker to have 2 people in the room dling at once than 1 of them not joining till the first has finished. Auto spec would make sense as an autohost option (for BA autohosts).

Most mods are smaller filesize than DSD.

So what? The most played map is DSD therefore on average the most time spent waiting around is probably on DSD overall. Even so, there are those with their dial up connections. It's still waiting time regardless of how long you have to wait.

So if it was possible to join a battle before having the map/mod with the option to turn both off (autokick/autospec in autohosts would work fine I guess) then everyone would be happier.

That would be cool, I think. It would help spread games that aren't usually played, etc.

Autohost = Democracy. Host has no say in it.

cant the host owner lock certain options as changeable by autohost admins anyway?

Yep, its up to the host to decide what things he wants to fall under democracy.

Owned etc

With qtlobby you can join the battle even if you don't have the mod.

I prefer the opposite. People who do not have the map get autokicked or locked out.
