please don't derail the thread because you do not know what is available. This discussion should be split off and sent into the map forum.
There are two feature/entity placement tools.
feature placer
and
World Builder

thx for moving this ... i dont want to split off anything ...
but .... i still dont know how to add features in sm3 ...
feature placer and worldbuilder dont hlp me ...
i added geos and trees. but i want my own features. i just dont know how ...
a small example map with 1 or more feature(s) would be very nice .... like smoth screenshot
i dont know how to work with lua. i dont want to read xxx tutorials. i just want to make another map. I read enough tutorials. modlling, uvmapping, compiling, blabla.

Not many porject use placement of features outside of the antiquated mthed mapconv uses. Sm3 jus became usable this week however sme(avalailable in mapping fourm supposedly supports sm3 and feature placement)
Since you are either, new to spring, lazy and unable to use forum search or somehow a combination if both....
If you want to see world builder grab pure.
If you want to see feature placer see grts.
If you want the raw lua for spawning a feature, search the wiki for create feature.

Wait. For World Builder, it's available as a separate download. Just get the 1.2 source, it includes World Builder. No need to get the entire Demo, just to give the (old, not quite so user-friendly) version running.

I thought you updated it since you added the glest content?

Nope. And the Glest content's just the tip of the iceberg, it's something like double the old size. BTW, don't let me forget about the harbor stuff, that's very sexy and I should find time.

oh cmon ...
my bad English is the problem
your last postings are a big challenge for me
can u plz give me a concret link? its bit difficult to find the right thread.
i made some features: s3o, unittextures, tdf
works fine with springmapedit
but i dont want these stupid scanlines in my map
so i decided to use mapconv. but users told me: hey ... theirs a new map format ...use sm3 ..its much easier to add features
now I am at a dead point: i dont know what to do nxt.
i cant use "s3o/unittextures/tdf" features in sm3?
its completly different way to add features in sm3 ?
example map would not hlp me ?
that was not rly hard to add geos and trees with featureplacer. i just dont know where to put the files/ which code must insert
babelfish is my friend

It's not quite that simple, at least with World Builder. I'd have to integrate your Features into it first.
If you have Features and want to release them under an Open Source license (so that anybody can use them), I'd be willing to put them into World Builder and release the current version sometime this week. Then you could use them and the rest of World Builder's features to do whatever you want.

He's saying that he has the models built, and is stuck in terms of getting them onto SM3 maps. Jelmer's tool is kinda confusing, I'm not surprised.

thats too complicated. I did not expect.
i though i can just add a feature by myself
like a smf map. copy files to dir. add some red pixels in feature map. compile and the map is finished
i better use mapconv i think
btw: iam from germany. i didnt lern english at school
i learned russian, because this part of germany was DDR at that time

It's not complicated, once it's ready to use in the software, you just go into Spring and put the Features wherever you want them. I'd need the models / skins first, though.
In the meantime, you can read
http://springrts.com/wiki/SM3_Map_Format - the only dedicated Feature Placer for SM3 is there, it's just not very user-friendly.

so you are a german speaking user.
Ok, that is good.
Now we need to find you a german speaking helper.

"Now we need to find you a german speaking helper."
that would be rly great

I could make units and mods ... its just a dream i think.
i hope i understand argh right:
i cant add my own features in the sdz file? everybody else who want to play my map has to change something in spring ???
holy shit
Re: Features?

by Argh
No, that's not right. You'd just add a script from World Builder, and your Features into the SDZ, and that's all. None of these 3 options involves major changes to Spring.
