Spring RTS Engine

Any thought given to using Wave prot in next version of spring lobby? Could we use it to kill off PHPBB and save ourselves some headache, and unify chat/boards, keeping some chans open as board-types, some chans as real-time types?

What is so great about google wave?

It's kinda like chat, forum and email combined in one epic mass of coolsauce. It's actually so robust, it's hard to understand tbh.

Wouldn't it require a rewrite to the lobbys if you integrated chat? Or would this be a browser based chat channel for the forums?

Yeah, switching over to Wave would be a rewrite of *everything*.

I don't think Wave is really meant for this kind of large-scale stuff anyways - I haven't tried the beta, but it mostly sounds like a real-time Wiki. That is, anybody can edit inline. Not threaded conversations. I mean, if it really operates with the "anybody can edit any spot" approach, wouldn't there be a problem wiDISREGARD THAT, I SUCK COCKS!!!!

Also wave, at least in developer version, was extremely slow.

Its ideal for small cooperative groups - like people working together on some mod project.

But sure wave could easily be added/embedded to spring site and when there is federation protocol released spring could even host own wave system/site.

The problem of editing other peoples replies is one the google wave crowd have long ago thought about.

Google wave atm is on invite only, and those invites are selling on ebay for as much as $200 with a direct link and $20 for nominated invites.

I have dev access to wave. You can prevent other people from editing posts its not so hard. There are plenty of "bots" that let you alter how it works.

Wave prot is built off XMPP ; it should be robust enough to scale to forum size if optimized correctly. it's incredibly likely that a a bunch of places will write a system anyway to unify chat/forum/wiki w/ wave anyway.

actually, only thing that is sprign specific would be to rewrite lobby and chat mechanism (possibly in-game even? idk) to use Wave. everything else is generic wave shit.

and in any case impractical until wave implementations optimized.

Wave protocol is "free" there is open source implementation of their server you can use to run independent wave system.
