Hi, I got a 600000second mute for saying CA devs are retarded, I demand justice and that you be banned from forums for a week.

If you can't tell the difference between mocking a professional game whose developers will never ever see this stuff and mocking the hobbyists inside your community then there's no hope for you.
Compare these statements:
"George W. Bush is a friggin' retard".
"You are a friggin' retard".
Which one of those is more likely to get you a punch in the teeth?

Neither, it's the internet, haha.

Well I guess the Spring community now even turns fighting kick-ass mechs into a shitstorm - hooray!
@smoth:
I think Gundam offers enough shiny, polished & non-scratched content. Dusky future needs more dirt!

Actually I don't see any really overdone blooming. One might say some surfaces have a bit too much of a specularity but oh well...
Apart from that we imo have a noob pilot who should have seen the Atlas before stepping on its toes...

you missed the point REAL IS NOT BROWN

Eh, I'll turn down the global alpha and the bloom will be fine. Sepia isn't realistic but it is acceptable - reality isn't that clean either but you wouldn't demand realistic waste and litter.
Reality is neither dull nor vibrant, but it also isn't something you want to play, regardless.

Actually, the "reality is brown" actually reminds me of French Realism art. So called not because the art was realistic-looking, but because it was a reaction against the glitz of baroque art.
This is just the same trend - a reaction against the bright, vibrant colors that marked the PS1/N64/PS2 era. Instead, we go for an exaggerated grimy, filthy tone.

THis trend is shared by the movies industry as well.

bullshit reality is vibrant.
the skys are always blue even in LA and jersey.
Grass is green, if you have forgotten that you need to take a step outside.
the sun is near white to our eyes not orange. Only at sunset is it orange..
fire is made of many colors.
there is a reason electric blue is called that..
I am sick of this myopic brown gameworld. If you think the world is that way you need better glasses and frankly you are colorblind.

IMO Mechwarrior 3 had the best visual style; it was gritty without sacrificing color. Mechwarrior 2 was a bit primitive to have much of an art style, and Mechwarrior 4 was a bit too cartoony (although obviously being more technically advanced).
Mechwarrior 3 had the best
intro video too. Shit is 10 years old.

@Smoth, it's just a trend. We'll be over it soon enough. Just like how a few years back there was a glut of WW2 videogames.
Everything has fashion trends, including games. Gamedevs have been wanting to rebel against the plasticity and glitzyness of video game art for a decade or so - you can see the fugly attempts to do so in nasty PS1 games like Medal of Honor. Now they finally have the chance to, and they're over-doing it.
The way the new art direction of games like Mirror's Edge were so loudly lauded - well, that just means this is only a temporary trend.
The "reality is brown" will probably stick around for games that are enamored with their own grittiness - the Gears of Wars and Quake 2's of the world. But I'll bet that, for example, mecha games will move away from it soon enough.

They just want to look like the style used in The 300, brown, dark shades, etc.
