bug or feature?

so my crappy ati card often screws up all the textures when i alt-tab out of the game and back in again.. but just this once it managed to make something half decent of it.
all the units were fully colored in their respective team colors and I played the whole game like this, it made a nice change :)
unfortunately most of the on screen text was garbled.. but critically not chat msgs:

You're playing with or without the alt-tab rendering fix? If that's bump-mapped water try to change it to reflective and see if that fixes your problems...

The psychadelic explosions are already a feature (for me at least), they are the same every time and they do actually look pretty good with a progression of colors billowing to the top. I find it hard to believe they weren't intentional (tapping some obscure ATI features?).
But these plastic ships were some crazy-lucky coincidence that I'll likely never see again :/

It's fairly easy to make a widget that does it, just like x-ray shader.
