It looks 'unprofessional' or to say it better it looks like a gundam? fan made a blog. The background is to busy and does not harmony with the white text background. I agree - static (i.e. non-scrollable) busy background pic with not very well readable white font for main categories on top of it plus some white textboxes here and there doesn't look good...

The background pics intended to be changed regularly, suggest a new background and I shall make it so.
I'm also making tweaks, such as putting a translucent background box beneath the top menu and search bar so that white text on whtie background isn't a problem.

Well it might be a bit better with those translucent bars - I still think the entire concept is not the best idea though. It just has too much of the flair of a visually overloaded teenager's myspace site that was cobbled together in one afternoon...
With your level of skill you easily should come up with something way more decent than that and well ... I didn't think the old design was bad - clear, clean and coming to the point with all the info...

I've changed the top section to solve the white on white issues, and the footer is something I intend to completely redesign.
And as I said, the background is not permanent, if you can find a better one then please suggest it. Ones that scroll vertically would be much appreciated so that I can make the background scrollable and not fixed.
