Let's MAKE IT HAPPEN!

I was thinking today, what could we do to promote more creativity and development in this community?
Here is the result: Project: MAEK IT HAPPEN
every week, a project is selected. The community, as a whole, will work to 'make it happen' by the end of the week. Particularly ambitious projects get 2 or even 3 weeks. Participation is optional, and project ideas will be user submitted.
Any questions?
This week's project is 'Let's MAKE IT HAPPEN!'
Our goal is to turn this idea into a full scale project by the end of the week. Stuff you can do is to suggest possible project ideas, and indicate general willingness to participate in 'Make It Happen' projects/contests.

Okay, we're done, pick something that isn't utterly boring and bureaucratic now.

Stop killing the buzz. >_>
A: It ain't boring (see KDR_11k)
B: That's just the writing style, it doesn't have to be bureaucratic.

I can provide balance testing, drama, criticism(both constructive and non-constructive) and, if no other host is available, game hosting.
side note: I think this is a terrible idea, the people who know how to make these things are all busy with their main projects and time spent making these projects would take away from already established projects.

Great! I'll take the testing, constructive criticism, and hosting.
Also, @ the tiny text: At least one major project (CA) has more than a few devs that are a little bit demotivated. Maybe a little free-thinking, creative work, with a different art style, team, or atmosphere, would give a little jolt to productivity.

You want it in simpler terms?
Working on a project to work on fun things is boring.
Working on fun things is not.
Let's go to the fun things. Pick something. Show what this project actually will be. Don't tell people to talk about it without a plan, and sit on their butts for a week.

You don't get to pick which qualities you get, you either get all or none.

Ah!
that makes sense!
hmm...
...a fun little project...
how about this?
Project name: 1 unit fiesta
Guidelines: You (the player) control only unit (in the classical sense. Uncontrollable units, invisible placeholder/backup units, etc. don't count). You must defeat waves of enemies. Within these guidelines, we need to make the game as interesting and engaging as possible within a week. Customizable weapons? Spells, perhaps?
So, what do you guys think?

I am in for that. I am willing to help out as it requires no commitment to spring....

That idea's totally plausible to turn into a very polished game, MK. A lot of the code you'd need is already available.
All of the content you need for an initial proof-of-concept is available, or could be made available (i.e., I could release the next build of World Builder early).
So, basically, it just requires some coder-time to build, which I'm really short on ATM, otherwise I'd just do it myself.

sounds like zoy/comshooter crossed with chickens... except a single com has all the abilities.
also: its garunteed(sp?) that alot of us won't join in, first of all, because not all of us know how, second of all, you can't just make a thread and make it happen, you need to COORDINATE these things! Thats why there are so many unfinished mods in bad shape, because the people working on it weren't coordinated (ok, I totally made that up just now but it sounds like it could be true)
anyway, like Argh said, almost everything you need for a proof-of-concept is available.
simply take chickens, a few abilities from zoy\comshooter, and a bunch of totally-ripped-off-from-other-mods enemies!
as for original content, I guess I could do some stuff with paint if you need.
also: your demolink is down, Argh.

I would like to start a short term project "Stop posting about doing stuff, start doing stuff".
Its main goal is to eliminate posts like these, posts asking other people to work, in favor of actually doing stuff :)
Also note that being motivated purely by fun factor/interest leads to almost no work being finished/polished/maintained.
Its a bad motivation in the long term!
Look at yourself MK, you delivered some great stuff, but you have promised much more, you promised models, icons, GUI design and instead are producing upbeat forum posts :)
And I think i dont have to list stuff that lurker, det or me promised to bring but eventually lost interest :)

Sounds like a fun idea. Something like WC3's 'Seelenjagd'-ish maps. I'd be in if you'd give us more than just a week. I could do a bit of mapping, texturing, models.

I'm actually using this as quasi-motivation to work on an existing project.
And because big images are fun:

My personal goal is to get nice features, scripts, motivation, and minigames out of these, not complete projects. And to make it clear, I'm not asking for others to work on my idea; I'll also be working on it, and anyone who wants can submit their ideas, too. But point taken, licho, I should really try and pull myself together

I still remember that you said you would make a pretty tooltip background for KP. Even though it's just a dumb rectangular picture, you said you had to first discuss specs before doing it. I wrote you a 350 words "tooltip background art specification document" detailing everything you could potentially need to know about it. But you still haven't done that background. It was one single damn small rectangular image, to use as background. You had made a promise that you broke. There wasn't even any explanation or excuse. A simple image of a frame, and you could not do it.
I don't care about that picture, I'm happy with the current tooltip background and would have been annoyed about what to do if you had made a worse one. I just brought that up as an exemple of why your goal of creating a meta project will be a failure.

Oh my god, I'm so sorry. here's the picture, if you still want it.

I can provide different sizes, proportions, colors and transparencies, I also have matching buildmenu panel background images, if you want them.
Again, my sincerest apologies.
