Saw on FatWallet that the IEEE is now making Windows 7 Pro RTM available via direct download. Apparently, a half year sub only costs $30 for students, and it was only $15 yesterday.

If I'm going to have to pay monthly for my OS I'm going to have to summon Saturn, Blue is Back.

What do you mean. You can pay one time for a 1/2 year sub, get 2 keys, and use them for as long as you want. I didn't see anything in the ToS that you had to maintain an active subscription to continue using any of the software they offer.

So if I understand this correctly, you subscribe to some software service for students, which costs $16. Or $30. Or something. And then you get various 3› metric asstons of free MS software such as 7, XP, office, etc, because you're allegedly a student.

Sounds good but the guy also says you can probably only activate it once since it's a student copy.

Yeah I actually found out about that yesterday, but most schools only register their EE/IT/ICS/CS departments.

Sounds similar to those people handing out drugs for free, to sell more once people became addicted.
