Favorite Veiw Mode

Just wondering what everyones favorite view method is. The winner could possibly be the focus of some improvments if any are deemed necessary. Also comment if you want a new veiw type/want to fix a view type.

TA style, because I am used to it and because it is much easier to use than the rest of them(scrolling especially).

But, I think Total War style is the best for making screenshots and such, because it looks so good.

Most of the time I am in standard overhead TA view. Although, when I am laying out defenses and other things that depend on terrain, I go with the rotating overhead view.

Rotatable overhead, it's the most natural feeling for me. The view controls are totally unrestricted, unlike the Total War and TA style views.
I would like to know if something could be redone though. I dislike having to hold the shift button when middle-clicking to change view. Perhaps you can make it simply a middle-click (no shift involved), and move the [under breath]useless[/under breath] feature already assigned to the middle-click to shift+middle-click?

That feature is NOT useless. I use it all the time. Please do NOT remove it. shift+middlemouse is fine.

well, I didn't say 'remove' it. I guess a more convenient solution would be to change Spring to remember which perspective the player used last, and then they wouldn't have to change it at all if they please.

Yes, that would be handy. One thing I have also noted, sometimes when you set your veiw mode pre-game (like when waiting for people to load), it changes to a different type once the game actuall loads.

If you change to ROC style pre game, then when it starts it sometimes goes to another one like OTA style. It gets quite annyoing having to set the veiw twice

I prefer the FPS viewmode, I can get any angle I need. Usefull when I need to know where my defences can shoot at. :)

this is the rigth place to beg.. yes plizzzzzzzzzzzzz, let the "free camara modes" (all but TA style), exceed the limits of the map... PLEASE,
i mean, if you are in rotatable, you cant have a good overview of what is happenning in corners and near the edges, and thats almos the only reason why i dont (cant!, cant give the enemy that advantage), i dont use those information rich camara modes more often... pleazzeee..

how much more edge space to give... well.. im not sure of that, but.. its better if its more than what is needed than if its less... end of beg. :roll:

TA camera, cuz it's not to zoomed out.

Im gonna buy a mouse with a scroll tomorrow, so i can (finaly) zoom out!
This will finaly give me the option to have something between TA camera (good, but a litte to small when dealing with units) and Total war (wich is a litte TO zoomed out IMO)

(oh, and mouses has become terably cheap now! 15 euro for a optical mouse with scroll AND the to extra buttons on the side AND egromanic (Shaped to fit good) built.)

(dont have a spell cheacker btw)

It'd be nice if the OTA camera could be angled using some keys i.e. pgup pgdown, end/home, insert/delete etc. And also if you could set the default somewhere in a file, so that you don't have to keep reseting it every game. Because from the OTA viewpoint, you get very little perspective.

I would use the orientable view, if the keyboard arrow would do like in FPS mode and the mouse scroll at edge keep working like in TA view.

does anyone else find it annoying that the cursor changes to that cross thingo whenever you change back from fps view?

I prefer the total war camera. It allows easy control, as well as the ability to change viewing angle when necessary. It is the most encompassing camera mode, without having the drawbacks of the free FPS mode.

The only problem I have with it is that, unlike on TA mode, holding shift does not increase the speed at which you scroll, which is a shame, because that is a particularly useful feature.

:| Why the sy make TA in 3D if we don't use 3D?! As for me I prefer roatable camera, even if sometimes the TA mode is useful

Why 3D = a good thing even if we don't use it?
3D = Zooming
3D = Units that look better
3D = lighting/shaddows/better explosions
3D = makiing prety pictures and glamour shots in game
3D = watching replays in full 3D even if the game was played in classic TA view
3D = I can play against people who don't like classic view
3D = going into fps mode when I need to

Better netcode? Better physics (including deformable terrain)? Better mod support? The list can go on and on...

Besides, TA was in 3D as well, the camera was just locked. Didn't you guys ever play with their previous work, the 3D demo replayer?

I think you're mistaken. I was under the impression that TA was not true 3D. The units, weapons, and terrain operated in three dimensions, but it was all rendered and projected to the player in 2D. You're referring to SY's 3DTA replayer, which took the 3D data and rendered it in 3D, but that was totally seperate program from TA itself.

If I've made any mistakes, will someone please correct me?

Yes, the 3D replayer was seperate and didn't allow you to play, but it was proof enough that TA operated in a totally 3D environment.

A locked camera doesn't make a game 2D...
