I checked all versions from xta 9.44 to modern day xta and all of the beamweapons are bugged and i cannot seem to fix it by editing the .cob, the unit fbi, or the weapon itself.

Tolerance=x; locks the aiming for beamlasers, is there any reason for this? I fixed it by removing tolerance=200; from the beams as well as 500;

Locks? How? As in, "won't aim", or "will aim but will frequently open fire without a valid aim?"
I have the latter problem, so I'd like to hear more about this. Maybe it's related to that brief period when 0.79 was released, where it was all working perfectly, then apparently got "fixed" by somebody.

I just tested this again, and I can make beamweapons fire nearly 90 degrees from the actual arc of the models atm

Well it aims but refuses to fire with tolerance 200 except at certain angles, preferably towards the sky, however when i removed tolerance all aiming was fixed or back to normal, so I would just suggest removing tolerance altogether from beamlasers argh.
