Spring RTS Engine

Just something I want to throw out for discussion.

I think it would be cool if when a new player signed up they were given an option to provide a username of the person who referred them to Spring.

A user could refer as many people as they liked and would gain a special additional rank icon based on the combined number of hours of their referee's eg. 25 hours for rank 1, 50 hours for rank 2 and so on.

The only motivation for this would be e-peen and not affect game rankings however I feel with a cool enough icon set the obsessive among us would be motivated to go for it and it would help people gain more of a reputation than just the silver star ranking and be a neat add on for the lobby + it's a relatively small change that'd potentially bring in a number of new players.

Obviously just an idea and not the end of the world if noone takes it up but thought i'd write it up just incase

I think something like this would be brilliant. The playerbase would really benefit from a system that encouraged people to mentor new players. Less raging at or taking advantage of newbies would lead to better player retention.

I keep convincing people to give spring a try but the insane learning curve often drives them away :'(

If it only popped up in a tooltip or maybe in #newbies, I don't see why not.

I guess some people woulc quickly create smurfs to rank up :)

to exploitable with the current regestration system.

And not worth putting any extra effort into, for a trivial rank that people will use to flex there Epeen even more so than they do already.
