Don't know if this has already been asked of, but what the hey. Is there anyone that would be interested in doing a StarCraft II mod? I have tried my hand in modding many times and have come to no result of what I desire so I don't feel like a dweeb for asking and not trying.

Hmm, I've heard Blizzard doesn't like their game-themed mods on other engines much. Doesn't like at all.

why spend years developing something that is going to exist next spring? what the heck dude.

Because there are things in TA that I loved that will never be in SC. Dog fighting is a decent example, because I doubt aerial units really do sit there. And you'd think a Battlecruiser would have more than one laser battery to attack from. Or carry them like they should. And I'm a fanatic.

you really do not understand the amount of work involved. Just mod scII when it comes out.

I'm aware, thank you. Simply making a request. Not need to be pushy friend.

Actually he said everything quite kindly. The thing is that even if you had all the models (what will be hell of a work - it would most probably not be finished before SC3 is released

) the Spring engine needs tons of lua workarounds to make a WC/SC-like gameplay possible.
Even if someone would put all the work in it, the game not look as good as SC2 (especially the maps) and as yuritch hinted Blizzard will be very pissed about it. Try to find some pieces of information about the "Starcraft Xel'Naga Vengeance"-mod for C&C Generals and you will see...

And I dont think anyone will start making a mod just because you ask for one.

I'm a patient individual. But I see what you mean, they really were pissed.

Worth a shot I say. Couldn't have been the only one with the idea.

its a bad idea simply because blizzard would C&D your ass in a heartbeat they are one of the most protective developers when it comes to IP if not the most protective.
Basically you dont fuck with blizzard so do something else.

Try this game, it's where blizzard got most of their ideas. And it's free!

certainly this shouldn't stop you from making a mod or game of your own on the spring engine; IP is a touchy subject around here, and we'd all rather see you come up with something creative and new rather than rehash an existing game design. as you said yourself, you enjoyed certain aspects of TA, perhaps a hybrid mod would be a fun project for you.
starcraft 2 might actually be an easy project, you wouldn't have to make a whole game at first, you could just make 1/3 of a game every year and a half. FU blizzard lol

I would say you'd get more support if Blizzard did not pose such a clear threat to those who use their intellectual property. Spring is above ground, if you want to create and complete such a project, it would probably be done on the sly and distributed through a dark net. It could still use the engine, but it couldn't be done here.

I agree, the thought of not broadcasting my intentions or operations did come to mind.

I do not think anyone would appreciate having their concepts improved anymore then they thought possibly could.

a few things I don't understand - how can they C&D you if you made all the data yourself from scratch ?
-1: I don't think a company with such bad intentions deserves their game to be ported to spring, so no, just like someone else typed it already...
FU blizzard lol

Because the data format is irrelevant. You're copying a likeness or design and redistributing it, which is illegal.
IOW, if you make free versions of commercial products, it doesn't matter if you made "fan art" or just stole their geometry outright. Either way, it's technically in violation of copyright, unless they have a "we like modders" clause, like LucasArts does, which is designed to protect people who are using their likenesses for fun, non-profit projects.

Just dont copy unit/faction names, dont use all unit types from SC, add your own units, dont use content from SC and write a different background story.
Maybe mix SC with Warhammer universe or something like that.
Be a bit more creative... it can still have the game feeling of SC which is microing a lot of units but makes fun to watch.
