Spring RTS Engine

I haven't played a good PC FPS in absolutely ages, and to be honest haven't really kept up to date with games either. So, would anyone care to recommend a fun FPS game?

e: Oh yeah, I guess I'm mainly hoping for a good single player at the moment, though if there is fun multiplayer with it too that is a bonus.

define good fps... really that is ambiguous

essentially i need something to kill time and fancy using my itchy trigger finger. i'd give you examples of what i'm looking for but now i think about it i really don't play many games on the pc anymore so i can't think of anything relevant.

I know it is old, but do you have The Orange Box? If you don't, get it. It is worth every penny and will keep you occupied for ages.

What're the last ones you played? How long have you been out of the game? I mean, is it safe to assume you've played through all of Valve's latest work (L4D, Half-Life 2 episodes, etc).

Orange Box is a very good shout, I'd totally forgotten about it. I've played a little bit of Portal but not properly. As for Half Life I haven't done owt to do with it since the original which is a failing on my part. Success.

I liked it.

singleplayer...? try painkiller (edit: obligatory ZP link). multi? tf2 or quakelive, or battlefield heroes, i dunno.

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare is a must if you want good FPS. Don't bother with World at War though.

CoD 4 is good...I thought 5 was fine as well. I also really enjoyed Crysis and Warhead. The FEAR series is fun as well, though very repetitive.

I think it says something that World at War is the COD that gets a Wii port, when it's also the one that's panned.

more FPS than fallout

I've played CoD 4 on xbox as well, and it was mighty fun, which is why I'm interested in the 5th one. ZP makes a good cause for Painkiller, sounds pretty much what I'm looking for in single player goodness.

To give a rough timescale about the last time I was buying good PC games, other than RTS, I found Unreal Tournament 2004 today in my room. Pretty sure that is my latest venture on these 'ere parts.

After going through nearly every FPS there is out there, i would say any FPS in the past few years, is of poor gameplay but high graphics.

If your purely after just shoot and run gameplay, where you can take a whole ammo create before you die, then serious tournament games such as the COD 4 and below is good, the doom series, unreal tourny.


I'd suggest mixing stuff up like RTS and FPS games.

Or even 3d person-1st person games such as splinter cell choas, or vegas 2
