Attention Springians Instability Is Round The Corner

BulletPointsProbems

-Random corruption of ability to play
-No changes being made to affect this pattern
-Complete loss of ability to play crashing within 0-5minutes
-Norton Antivirus detecting Spring as an internet worm
-Running program causing machine restart
-Invalid Pointer Operation Error when refreshing maps
-Spring completly closing when the game is launched

Logical problems? caused by a singal fault?

This is the third time that all of these symptons have corrupted my ability to play some taking 24 hours to begin occuring and others happening randomly. When Spring is updated or patched the game is refreshed and all of these symptons go away for a while, but if spring is only uninstalled and reinstalled there is no change in the problems. The options and settings the game uses have no effect when changed.

How To Reach Some Of these Errors.

Invalid Pointer Operation Error - Grab a map and then download an updated version (whilst remaining on a server) and hit refresh map. This will cause it to say Invalid Pointer Operation Error in a error box.
I believe that the Invalid Pointer Operation Error which this causes makes the program shutdown when the map is used on the server even if the client is restarted.

As for the Norton problem considering Spring a worm i have no idea, what worrys me more is the time it takes Norton to call it a worm as it can happen in mid game about an hour in.

On a positive point if you are signed out of the lobby i have found that using alt-tab and reconnecting whilst ingame is possibe without being rejected from the game! :)

Can any one tell me why its considered a worm or suggest anything have any questions and such? Oh and im On windows Xp on an Athlon and have had hundreds of full happy games as you should all know :P

happy bug hunting!

ok guys im running out of ideas

I have reinstalled the program and i have run two clients at once and used a second one that also failed, i have tampered with every option and played games alone nothing is working and i lust to play.

Is there a log for Spring hidden anywhere that would be replaced by a patch which records or gives the game any information? I believe something not removed when you uninstall the game is causing my game to always crash, this would also account for the fact that when i get a new patch it works fine. I wish to find a hidden file n delete it

Radeon 7000 graphics card
Athlon 3200+ cpu
Running XP
256mb of ddr3 ram
256mb of other ram

The game works seamlessly usually, now it crashes in the first 3 minutes i spent an entire night playing games with some friends without problems only the night before. My machine restarted itself randomly when i attempted to open spring up earlier and now the life expectancy of a game is 1minute average. Whats very odd is that it hadnt been restarted since the patch was added so maybe thats relevant, putting the patch back on doesnt help and neither does installing anything in any order.

I know this sounds about as much fun as a root canal, but... Could you boot up into memtest and thrash your memory? If its not a ram issue, it could be video driver or OS issue. Might be worth trying a different driver revision.

You could also try underclocking the ram and video card, see if that changes anything...

Good News

Deadram and SJ where seen to be discussing the registry handler as deadram said he had a better way of doing it. Both touched upon the fact it would be advantageous to the linux porters to store it in a file and could be advantageous to them aswell.

If your computer randomly restars, during spring maybe it's a bluescreen f death but your systems setup to skip it and autorestart. Bluescreens should always be noted down, especially the stop errorcode and any filenames, just google for the stop error code and you'll usually find out what's wrong.

Aside from those, I have sene people complain of those problems ever since spring was released. Bluescreen crashes, game crashing after a while, network code problems.

After some more various battles my machine becane restarting i found the problem for that was a bug had gotten onto my machine and a guy was trying to hack me so everytime my machine restarted it was due to him. After getting more antivirus programs i found 12 bugs with norton and 57 with pest patrol. What irritating is that after my machine restarted itself the game stopped working. Now i can get as far as 5 minutes in when playing by myself the game goes down when some event occurs, from a plane trying to fire to a commander trying to build something. Its like getting another taste of the game and then not being able to play, i reinstalled and repeated my previous patterns... no positive effects
