F1/F4 -> strange white frame around minimap

when pressing F1 or F4 the minimap gets cropped. its original size turns into some strange border:

only a part of the minimap gets drawn (its not resized as i thought at first, some part is cut away) but units are still drawn normal.
any idea what might cause this? i dont use any widgets.
