Guess you can't go on making a game forever (heh) without the money running out eventually.

Sell the license to Croteam. They can just change Serious Sam to a blonde dude and rename Serious Sam 3 into Duke Nukem Forever.

So the Duke made 3D-Reals well done..
i like my Company bloody. Notice next time, ask the MasterChiefcook to do the bbq
I don┬┤t believe it.. it┬┤s the duke. he can┬┤t be a goner, because he is the duke. It is that simpel.
Get over the fake news.. if 3d doesent finnish the duke, he will do it all by himself.

German song from a Gamestarreader.. Translation "The Duke will never come, the Engine is old, HL 2 comes soon, that rocks way more. Showstop here, Showstop there.."

Yeah, they should release the source. Or better yet, release the IP.
I'll bet somebody would make a pay-for-me Crysis-engine version of the Duke's adventures in about a year.

Neato.
Man... those poor bastards. Counting back, they must have gone through at least 4 major engines, and had to trash their entire content base at least three times. Amazing that they kept going at all.

There's no reason that a good Duke Nukem FPS couldn't be made by a decent team in about 2 years using an existing engine, they just never put enough resources into it.

Considering the amount of money dumped into this project, I'm sure it's more a matter of mismanagement of those resources rather than shortage of them.

Hard to judge, unless we knew their actual delivered cash, and when they got it.
For a AAA title going for current-gen art standards, though... that'd be a cash burn-through of roughly $750K / year, minimum. Takes a lot of money to keep the lights on, if you're not "just" paying a couple of coders.
I'm sure that the post-mortem will be an interesting read when it shows up. Twelve years from now

Been poking around for tidbits of the story and apparently there has been no official announcement of the fate of DNF, the project and team could technically be taken over by another company on gaining the rights to it.
