How to disable ground shading?

I'm pretty sure that on some other computers I had (ibook g4, pc with geforce2), there was no ground shading shown.

On this laptop (Via Chrome9) elevations do "project" a shadow, and I wonder if I could get some fps if I disabled them. The problem is that I can't find a command that would allow me to disable ground shading.

How can I do it?
And if there's no command implemented at all, maybe there's some other "hackish" way to do it? Like disabling some OpenGL components?

/shadows 0 (in-game)

If you want them gone-gone, do "/shadows -1".

This command doesn't affect ground shading.

I'm talking about disabling this:

Ah, I see what you mean now. That's what the "creating ground shading" loading phase generates, you wouldn't gain any FPS from disabling it (which you can't). Also, the result would be ugly: ;)

So it's like the map is pre-painted black in the right places?

Anyway, if it doesn't affect performance, better to keep it! :-)
