true
unrelated: what are your thoughts on making a commercial game with all proceeds going to improving spring and advertising spring?

i'm going to be very lazy here, and ask you this:
what exactly is GPL's policy towards derivative work? improvements to the engine get applied to main engine, but can't one make a fork if they want to be a selfish #$@% and not share the source? and the games themselves can be under any license, it's just the engine, correct?

don't even start that line of discussion godamnit. If he wants to sell something using the engine, the engine will require many improvements. Those changes to the engine would have to be shared. Now punch yourself in the nutts for starting what will soon be a retarded thread full of wanna be lawyers talking about what is derivative.. godamnit man!

Not if they wish to avoid violating the GPL, no.

Not exactly. Please read
Tobi's post on the matter to better your understanding of our current status quo, which was arrived at after much debate and discussion with the FSF.
Basically, it's possible to make a product that can be sold, but keeping it legal and packaging it correctly is a bit tricky.

THIS IS A REPLY TO SMOTH'S POST. ARGH POSTED SECONDS BEFORE I HIT THE SUBMIT BUTTON
It's better than a thread full of emanuel talking about licensing

.
anyways, consider that line of discussion closed.
back to topic:
how easy is it
easier than any other rts engine you'll find.
can you make a standalone game that u can sell publicley
see previous posts.
REPLY TO ARGH'S POST

no he has to work with the busted codebase... sure stuff is done but it also has issues already working with a codebase with issues can be 4X more complicated than starting from scratch.
