thinked about make my live cd for spring and buy a ati3450(laggy!)
now i can install linux !
i look THE old cae linux feature a CAO/DAO suite (3d simulator including fluid heat gravity particule etc....)
maybe microsoft is mandatory for test the new demo and buy commercial ,

i was surprised per the tiny diference with my new ati3450(maybe 66%or less ...)on cod5(fps) i stay at 800*600 from 14f/s to 23f/s maybee...
im so avaricious on gpu due to i nostagic of the age of the integrated video(pentium1?)

If you're willing to spend up to $100 USD these days on a video card, you would get very decent (60fps) performance on COD5 at 1280x1024.

Spring runs faster in linux if you write the lua in emacs.

I never got Linux doing proper hardware acceleration on my 9200, doubt support for 9250 was much better.

It isn't the distro that matters.
As others have said the issue is the AMD/ATI drivers. AMD made a big song about open-sourcing their drivers but they still hold back important information on the new chipsets like 4870. There are also 4 different drivers now which confuses things
ati -- really old cards
radeon -- most modern cards except some of the newer stuff
radeonhd -- the newer stuff but still incomplete support
catalyst -- the binary drivers released by AMD
It's my understanding that the catalyst drivers are still the most complete opengl support and the fastest. The radeon / radeonhd are good or bad based on your chipset. ALL are buggy, and always have been.
I'm still happy that they released some information but it seems like a close fight between their PR and legal departments. They want to *claim* they like open-source, but they don't really want to give away any commercially valuable information either. The result is that their newer cards run like crap on the open-source drivers.
Of course AMD cards don't even work well with Spring on Windows so it's a double-whammy really.
You'll just have to try the different drivers and see how you go.

diferent with all distro ,
linux gamers is sensed is the better but need compilz (i m retard)
i tryed suze and 10others ,

but cant bench without gpu in this age ...
now i can but dont want reinstall the 15distro...
It isn't the distro that matters.
and see how you go.
i fill the hatred coming out and near to vomiting again a river of obscenic,
is the linux users have the same issue that the springers ?
its the gpnlu threat ?

Currently the proprietary AMD driver only supports R600+ Chips and dropped support of R300-R500 just a few days ago.
The opensource drivers radeon and radeonhd do support all chip families, but 3d speed is very poor however they deliver better 2D performance.

This topic could have been interesting but in all seriousness, there is no way anyone who doesn't speak english natively could think what they type like he does make sense. It is frustrating.
This guy is such a pain in the ass when i want to read a post to find this crap. grrr
