it's still not done being cut, but it is clearly win.


made by Kenneth Barry of http://whittledinwood.blogspot.com/ - he's quite skilled at woodworking. he's still perfecting the technique on this, but once he's ready he will make a spring map coffee table.

speaking of that, is there any easy way to extract a heightmap from the .smf file? i think i've heard that L3DT can do it, and also maybe a widget can do it?

Heh, sweet.

Spring Map Editor can load smfs and can export heightmaps, one assumes it can do both in conjunction.

neat, I used to clean my dad's cnc mill. Thing was the size of a room.

The CoX mountains make this look like a sort of sex toy. Not sure how you would use it though, besides extremely creatively.

It seems even the mill, like the mapconverter, suffers from scanlines on the map.

It seems he has 2.5 axis machine or maybe 3 axis but he still used raster milling and rather large mill for first pass.
It looks like the top part has already got 2nd, more accurate pass.

Edit: There's a widget called "Height map exporter" that lets you do what it's name says.

I was roughing out the map on the first pass, thats where all the thick liens are from. IF you look in one of the pictures, you notice half circle burn marks o the side of the map, thats where my machine crashed into the map and stopped cutting the second pass.

I knew it was going to happen (remembered in the middle of one of my college classes). The nicks all over the edges of map are from the fact that my 2' x 4' machine is home made, and my tolerance is only about....... 1/8".

This was strckly a test, and i want to find map bette for a coffee table. Some of the maps will make fun textures.

By way of the heightmap exporter, i can't seem to get it to work, someone mind giving me some very ery very idiout proof instruction on how to use it?

Will you add water?

I'm not sure why description is so poor for that widget. It actually lets you decide which format you want to export to.

Commands (with /luaui):

I've got similar sized CNC machine at my home, but I never had huge enough chunks of wood to make something like coffee table x.x
My best wood product is "wrench box" 1 2. Others were made out of aluminum.

This map was made from 2 16" x 16" .75" MDF.

I work for a Cabinet Shop, and do allot of Dumpster Diving.

I have been thinking. When someone had a avatar of "Flea Rush" it made me think a bit.

If i could get the 3d Files for units, i believe one of my machining buddies can convert the file over for cutting on my machine. Might be fun to have a little commander, or a pee wee or even the might Flea.

Never the less, I have been thinking allot about the commet catcher / moon based maps as a starting point. They are relatively flat, and have a very fun texture to begin with.

concerning an earlier post, So what exactly (line by line pelase) do i need to type in ingame in order to get the heightmap.?

Anyone have suggestions on my first coffee table? Wood, Painted?
