Why can't I get rid of Spring????????

For some reason I have not been able to get Spring to work worth a shit and am sick of trying. I have tried several times to get rid of all of the components of Spring, but for some reason TASclient is invisible in the list of programs on my uninstall program. HOW DO I GET RID OF IT AND ALL REMAINING FILES ASSOCIATED WITH SPRING?

Once you download Spring, Spring downloads you.

Tasclient doesn't install anything outside of the spring folder; when you remove spring you remove tasclient.

And you seriously never made a forum post about any issues? You still won't say what they were?

As a matter of fact, no I have not posted about any of the issues that I was having. Given my location and my loathe to ask for help on anything, I have managed to make it this far in life without whining on a message board every time something doesn't "just work". However given my love for TA-style games, and the obvious improvements Spring has made to the format, I chose to make an effort to figure out what I am doing wrong (if anything).

1. The Spring app doesn't fully install unless you are online. I think it is neat that you can go online and kill someone else, but if you have no internet connection it sucks.

2. None of the AI's (except P.U.R.E.) will load. Under XP this just causes the game to stop but on Vista the opposing commander just sits there while I keep getting a message telling me that the AI failed to load.

3. The Spring App comes with no mods, only basic AI's (of which I have yet to get one to work) and no maps. I know all of these things are probably elementary for most of you, but I am a nube, so when I go to play the game on an off-line machine it bitches and growls that it can't connect to the server, then it tries to load up the game I ask for and it tells me that it doesn't have any maps...I tend to get a bit irrate.

4. Spring is neat and from what I can tell, hella ambitious, but to tell you the truth I am sick of games that REQUIRE you to be online at all times whether or not you are actually playing against a real person online. I live in the sticks. I know that means that I am like 10% of the users of the product but I just feel if you are going to go through the trouble of making a stand-alone game, that it should be entirely stand-alone, and only ask you if you want it to download a bunch of crap when you go online.

Maybe I didn't set something up right, maybe it is just cause I am a nube that there was something I didn't intuitively do to make the thing work the first time, I don't know, but my plan was to eliminate all vistages of Spring from my hard drive and try it all one more time.

being online while installing is a prerequisite, that's true. having fulfilled it, steps are easy:

1. install the game (if you're on vista and/or not running as admin, it'll make your life easier if you don't install to program files)
2. go to google, type 'spring mod download'
3. download game of choice (probably latest BA or XTA)
4. download a few maps from the same place
5. start a lobby, let it update if required
6. you can go offline now. restart the lobby, click singleplayer, play with RAI or KAIK.

granted, a bit complex - but spring is only an engine, let's say it's undergoing a little transition in the philosophy of its distribution.

If you want hassle-free single player and not going online not even during installation, instead of downloading the engine and then adding components only to find they're not compatible, try getting one those self-sufficient game package:
  • I made sure the Kernel Panic installer contains an offline single player skirmish, and it doesn't require anything but what it is already in the installer to work: http://jobjol.nl/1683 Oh and when you click uninstall, and tick everything, it really does uninstall everything (except the springsettings.cfg ).
  • Last time I tried P.u.r.e. had some similar custom installer and Single Player Launcher thing.

I like PURE but it doesn't have a difficulty selector. Subsequently I've been gettin my ass handed to me every time....good thing I am playing against a bot instead of a human....I don't know that I could handle that kind of ass-kicking by a real person!

Since spring has no real Tutorials of any kind ATM,It is best to start playing online if you are completely clueless of the gameplay.
You play a few games with Humans, and you will see how to play at least on a basic level(with the game of your choice),than you can kick any AI's ass since they really aren't that hard.

Spring doesn't run in the background or anything... you can just delete the install folder and shortcuts folder from the start menu... and if you really must you can search the registry and wipe out any references to it... new versions store preferences in your userspace instead... doubt it's more the a hundred KB anyways...
