Upspring Mirror or Alternative

I need a copy of the latest Upspring, but Fileuniverse is down. Where is it mirrored / is there a newer alternative yet to it (needs to be able to work with 3do + s3o)? Thanks.

Try this one:
http://trac.caspring.org/browser/trunk/ ... r-1.54.exe

For 3dos I'd use 3dobuilder though...

For 3DOs I find its best to do your texturing in 3DO builder and your points/origin placement in Upspring, as Upspring has a nice click-n-drag feature for placing origins/firepoints

When creating empty points in Upspring (and maybe even when just saving something with empty objects - not sure anymore) it ruins the 3dos for 3dobuilder though. When I created the 3dos for MA I imported the objects via Upsring and set the origins there as it's quite comfortable. Texturing & empty points were done via 3dobuilder afterwards due to the incompatibility with Upspring (which also seems to fail when saving the 3do ground plate)...

Yes I know, I'm staying far far away from 3do builder.

Also, is there some better way of editing fbi files (other than a normal / improved texteditor)?

it is an fbi file, you are stuck with a text editor.

You could convert to luadefs and then you're actually editing in a language and can use a program that has lua code hilights (notepad++ for example). THe highlighting doesn't do much good tbh but it does make unit files a lot easier to read/skim.

Heh, need some stuff like automatic wreckage generation scripts or something.

In fact, it would be awesome if there were an IDE for unit/weapon/explosiongenerator files.

When texturing 3do's, I find it easier to pry my eyes out with spoons and then sandpaper my own corneas off.

Also, automatic wreckage generation would be excellent.

Its not that tough if you make use of features designed to speed up the process....F11-F12 to scroll through textures, the "apply to all surfaces" option.

Shit its easier than learning photoshop

We're talking about the same 3dobuilder right? The one that sucks total ass and crashes every fifth second and requires you to pack custom textures into a TA palette gaf into a TA ufo and doesn't even have fucking camera panning, right?

Oh, I could go on for hours... Fuck 3dobuilder right in its visual basic ass.

I never got crashes in 3do builder...

Me too. I only use the solid colors in 3DO (so no custom textures, and doesn't look that bad), and I had no crashes in a long time (I know some ways to crash 3DO builder though, I just avoid them. One would be to enter a non-number into a numeric field like piece origin coordinates).
Upspring unfortunately just displays solid-colored 3DO models as completely black (they are fine ingame however).

I never get crashes either. It takes about 2 mins to go from folder->GAF->UFO. Most annoying thing is having to rotate textures so their shading matches up, if there were a shortcut for that I could texture units a lot faster
