Albatross: Arm aircraft carrier

Aircraft carrier, made in a sudden burst of inspiration.
Halfway through it, Saktoth told me he wants a higher bar of quality for higher costing units. I used a dirty, underhanded trick to marginally raise my bar of quality.

Can you spot it?
Revision: 1 - Status: Partially UVmapped
Pics:

Render (doesn't do it justice

Tested ingame using another unit's texture image. No, Febreeze will not wash this out of your eyes. Cazn you guess which unit's texture it is though?

Another shot

Sorry, but no.

if its an aircraft carrier its need more... oomph...
not to sound rude (but it will anyway) but that look like a waffle iron with its ridged plates replaced with griddle ones for making pancakes or eggs...

The issues:
it has no shape. Seriously, it's a rectangle with some rectangles extruded and a tower on top. I'm not saying an aircraft platform should look like a US aircraft carrier, but it needs more shape than that.
Look at the tower - it looks nice (so nice that it leads me to wonder where you swiped it from). The rest of the body has no details and no sculpting. Nothing but a handful of orthogonally-positioned rectangles.
Your LLT was a good start. Try and work with things like that more - shapes, mechanisms, details, etc.
And the skin looks like it was done in MSPaint.

you haven't seen (and hopefully will never see) the bottom.
But I am i n total agreement with both of you. I just don't know how to design an aircraft carrier

I, err...
assimilated some of Cremuss's geometry for the top part of the tower. The bottom part, with the nanlathe, is all mine though.

That's what I'm good at: mechanisms

. I should post my drawn concepts someday...

I am seriously thinking of just scrapping the body and using the tower for something else (aircraft lab, anyone?)
What do you think?

So basically you've "assimilated" parts of Cremuss's models, and want to start something else using his work?
I really like your spirit and effort, but you really need to practice on making nice, aesthetically pleasing forms for your models. (on your own, not blatantly copying others' work)
I would suggest looking at some really nice pieces of artwork or models or actually anything at all. Then think about why it looks the way it does. Why is one war-machine robot so much more badass than the other?
And then when you have an idea for something, borrow little bits from here and there to fill it out. If you copy directly someone else's work and then stick it on to your final unit/model whatever, it shows... and is incredibly tacky, not to mention the unit doesn't have consistency.

erm...
I used the term "assimilated" for a reason. maybe 1/3 of the tower's geometry (by vertexes, not by size, if it were by size it'd be much less) is Cremuss's, and I made many modifications to it. I did try to retain Cremuss's style, though, because i like cremuss's style
oh please, saktoth, dont grill me on this, please XP

The Aircraft carrier costs 4000 metal. It must look utterly spectacular.
We can replace the Aircraft Carrier as last priority anyway, its not an OTA model.
Cremuss's ships are going on core/logos. Its probably wrong, then, to adapt Crems designs to an Arm/Nova unit. Unless you think his units are misplaced and would be better on Arm (but at least one is already textured for Core/Logos).
If you want to work on Crems models, texture them for core, there is heaps of work to be done on them. I can give you the source file for the AA ship.

I'd work on them if only i knew how to texture
...and how to uvmap cremuss's... err, funky, geometry (IE cut down the middle, no recognizable seams, i'm not criticizing his geometry! just it's difficulty to uvmap

)

Actually, it's already uvmapped, and, the only way to learn to texture is by doing it, so not doing it becaus you can't won't help
