Crashes when compiled from source

I run the stable version of Spring from the repos and it works perfectly. I am trying to work with the caiinterface branch and it is crashing. This branch has been tested in Ubuntu by others, so I believe I am doing something wrong.

I pulled the source code from SVN and (eventually) was able to compile and install. I now have two versions of Spring, one at usr/games and one at usr/local/bin. I updated to my new executable and the new libunitsync.so in my config file. I found that, in SpringLobby 0.0.1.10372 that I could select a map, then as soon as I select a Mod the lobby crashes. The only way to bring the lobby back up is to revert to the old, stable settings in the config file.
I tried using the new executable with the old unitsync.so. I'm not sure really what this does, but I was able to load a game and get the game countdown: 3.....2.....1.....crash!
Does anyone have any guidance for this problem? I suspect it is some small problem with my setup. I also suspect the unitsync library, since changing it changes the problem. I couldn't find anything about it really in the wiki. I appreciate any help!

EDIT: a couple of the logs, although they don't seem to indicate any errors
