Soon the hassle of christmas celebration is a distant memory (thank god for that). Judging from the past, this has been the best time for buying a new computer as you can find some real bargains when christmas stocks are being sold out.

Originally i was going to wait for the larrabee setups before upgrading my 3 year old c2d setup, but as i found some incredible bargains, i decided to go for it and upgrade now.

You can post bargains you have found in this thread, heres what i found and bought.

GFX: Sapphire Radeon 4870 1GB GDDR5 - 199eur
CPU: C2D e8500 Wolfdale - 187eur
Motherboard: Asus p5q-pro - 124eur
Memory: Kingston ddr2 1066mhz CL7, 2x2GB - 68eur

Well, for people in the US, Amazon.com is offering a nice deal on a PNY Verto 9600GSO 768MB card for $42 after rebate. And you could apply for an Amazon card for a $30 discount to bring the cost down further. This piece of card should be enough to run Spring at 1920 x 1200 with everything at max and then some extra image quality settings.

Fry's electronics had a C2D E8500 + Cheapass ECS mobo for $135.

How much vram? Shadowmaps on 8192^2 have maxed out my 640mb on mods with lots of texture space.

It seems the radeon HD 4870 1gig sells for 259├óÔÇÜ┬¼ currently in pixmania, so it probably was an error in their pricing system. The upside is i still got it for 199 :P

Hopefully my post inspired someone else in this community to also grab on to the 60├óÔÇÜ┬¼ discount while it lasted :)
