Spring Downloader fails to load, unitsync error

Spring Downloader isn't loading for me.
Please close program now and move your SpringDownloader.exe to spring folder and delete SpringDownloaderConfig.xml in your spring
Clicking OK brings up another error, this time with a red X icon (ooh, scary)

Another error also shows after that one, containing exactly the same error message.

Than you get the "This program has fucked up" error that Windows shows you before it terminates.

Deleting the SpringDownloaderConfig.xml file does not help.

Re-installing Spring does not help, and I can play games fine.

Code: Select all

Well, since this seems to be a bug with spring, and not with my installation, there is nothing I can do.

Spring refuses to recognise any mods, and when it does (at random) it "differs" from everyone else's.

Can't play, not going to waste my time with this.

Bye.

1. You don't need springdownloader, and you should make the fact that there are missing mods the topic, because that's far more important.
2. Are you sure nothing spring related was running during the reinstall?
3. Do you have up-to-date tasclient and spring downloader that run using admin rights? If not, then Vista is giving them fake program files folders to download into. Right click, run as admin, update.

I -do- need SpringDownloader actually, I play CA almost exclusively, and I am not going to be downloading 60MB every new version.

I tried doing a re-install, with everything being ran as admin, I also installed to a different directory to what I installed to before.

I did manage to get to the point where the game will run without having to wait for 5 minutes for spring.exe to load, and TASClient can join games, and it doesn't have the "broken mod" icon either.

But SpringDownloader still pops up with its 4 error messages every time TASClient starts.

All these programs are being ran as admin.

Unhappy.

Switching SpringDownloader into compatibility mode seems to be working.

This is why Windows shits me.

This happens to me too! Are you on vista64? I notice that after trying to run SD about 50 times, it eventually works.

This happens to me as well in Tasclient. Springlobby will start spring instantly, so I had to switch.

Same here, i downgraded to XP because of it.
It took 5 minutes to start spring on vista64bit.

Wow downgrade to XP just because of Tasclient. lawl.

Maybe the compatibility mode fix would work with Tasclient too? I'll try it.

Note: there are two issues here.

One is that Tasclient chugs your hard drive for five minutes when loading itself in the splash screen and it says "loading unitsync.dll."

The other is when you are in a game room and the game starts. It says "Game launched" but spring.exe takes a minute or two before it even opens a window to start.

The latter is a fatal problem because if it takes long enough the host will assume you dropped. Fortunately the latter was easily fixed when reinstalling spring, the former seems to be a permanent problem in vista64.

Yet somehow springlobby manages to not suffer from either of these.

fucking awesome. my pc runs the tasclient fine and I was online using this machine the other day. I updated the lobby and it still worked fine. so I figured I would load the lobby today and sure enough the bastard downloader won't load now. Oh well, I don't use it but I wanted to try and give some information no matter how useless.

Is there a resolution for this besides downgrading to X64 XP? I've tried both running SpringDownloader.exe and TASClient.exe in XP SP2 compatibility mode and as administrator to no avail.

Not until someone figures out what the problem is.
Downloader is open source so anyone can try.
I dont have vista.

I reinstalled everything and have been running downloader and Springlobby without a single problem for over a month now. Vista 64.
