What needs fixing? The stupid map? Or do you need more action? The pictures tell a story about a British assault. Want a screenshot about CA? Maybe I should make a video....

I guess it's mostly that the pictures show spring's uglier sides, whereas really only shots showing it at it's best should be on the site. For example, most have a fairly ugly skybox, most have low quality shadow settings, no reflection, and often show the battle from angles that reveal awkward hidden faces on the tanks, low-res groundtextures, and infantry at awkward angles.

SWIW can look damn ugly if you look at it in certain ways, but if you intentionally set out to get a sexy shot, it's not difficult, you just need to be aware of the pitfalls. The same goes for S44.

Consider these screenshots:
http://spring1944.com/s44/images/screens/12.jpg
http://spring1944.com/s44/images/screens/27.jpg
http://spring1944.com/s44/images/screens/24.jpg

Apart from being composed nicely, they also show off Spring's good parts, while hiding it's ugly parts. They look pretty much professional in quality.

Thanks for pointing that out. But I could have sworn that reflective units are on.

What he said. I'm looking for screenshots that show off spring, I could care less about a particularly interesting unit or base unless it also makes spring look good.

Reflectivity, good light casting, particularly good looking CEGs, and no faults like ugly grass growing in the middle of the road or angles that show missing faces on the models.

btw spring is an rts game, not a fps or a simulation one, so stop making fuckin screenshot from the ground !!! it will be ugly because units and textures are not as detailled as the ones in fps games and it will not show spring at all

plus there is no screenshot with interface that's stupid showing the advanced stuff of the gui is important

Most GUI's are butt-ugly and would probably turn off more people then they turn on.

As been said tens of times before.
When making spring screenshots make them of big battles when zoomed out...

We need to get rid of the old grey GUI completely and completely shine it up and add some extra cool features. Ice UI has all the main features down but still lacks a few small things like the old 'h' sharing screen, the end game report/graphs and the players loading list on the left at game load up.

Agreed appearance isn't that greatly important but it certainly helps draw in new players and is a lot nicer to use. I think Spring needs just as much shine on the outside as it has on the inside. If you look at most new game media these days you'll find tons of shiny graphics, screenshots. videos, fan packs etc.

We need to make Spring compare to new RTS games. Most gamers get their first impression of a game from it's graphics and layout. If they like it, they did further.

The screenshots in this thread look to old and low poly to draw players in.

Stuff like this is a nono.

Stuff like this is a yesyes. (Although the maps trees aren't that pretty but there's over 3000 maps to choose from to take nice screenshots so I advise you choose ones with little nice features if any at all)

Agreed. 99.99% of screenshots I see for spring have no gui. If I saw a screenshot like that in passing on the web I'd think "some 3D scene" and move on, never thinking of it ever again. If I saw the same shot with a small gui with attack/move/bla/bla/bla I'd suddenly think "hey an RTS, I love those!"

Keep on eye on CA for new gui goodness, coming soon.

Spring's an engine. Our screenshots should be trying to attract developers as much as players. Thats why we show off technical features in the screenshots as much as possible.

I don't mind posting screenies with GUI if they look good. But don't assume the target market is just RTS players.
