Newbie questions? sorry!

Hi
I'm new here and I have a couples of questions to help me more sotfly in the game (by the way I did read the guide, but I still have somes questions):
1- Is the rate of constrution a direct result of the metal and energy cathering? I have some problem reading the meter line at the top of the screen . Can somebody explain what I'm seeing? And what I should do?
2- How does your base (how many buildings) look early in the game energy and metal gathering wise, middle and end of game? Not your private strategy just a head up!
3-What is the regular or so not regular update rate of this game, I known it's open source so I guess not to often but I'm curious? What will the 1.0 include (Is there a super schedule somewhere?
4-Is the mod OTA really worth it, what is the differences between the regular and the mod (is there more mod around and where can I find them). Is it easy to switch from one mod to the other.
Well that's it for now...
Thanks in advance for the reply.
I hope see some of you around on the battlefield.

P.S.: don't burn the newb (hehehe)

damn i wanted a barbecued n00b
1. Rate of construction is affected by two things. 1st (and most important) is you m/e stores/income, if you run out of resources then you go into 'nanostall'. this slows building down as you can't afford to make all your buildings at a fast rate, second (but still important) is how many builders you have in xta: FARK/NECRO>Comm>Vehic>KBot>Air (dunno where ships come in) in OTA FARK/NECROs build ~ the same rate as the comm i think, i don't use them because i think its cheating (in OTA)
2. My Advice is to make multiple bases. first you have your 'main base' as this is first built it is gonna be the most developed, then you have expansion areas, protected lightly/not at all, then a forward base (build a radar in main, use comm to construct another base ~ half way to enemy when you have the resources, secondary bases, spread across the map, in case your enemy nukes, swarms or whatever your main base you have somthing to go with.
3. Usually every month or so
4. OTA is for sure worth it, its the Total Annihilation game balance, but as units can no longer fire over a unit the same size it makes for good gameplay. it uses OTA units only. XTA has a (imo) shitty balance (Scouts>Tanks, lvl2>>>>>lvl1) and extra 3rd party units (radar jamming structure, mobile fusions, light fusions etc)

the scouts<tanks issue has something to balance it
build times, weasel/jeffy takes much more time& energy to build when compared with instigator/flash

erm wtf, scouts are better than tanks, but because of another idiocy they take ages to build...scouts take LONGER than TANKS to build...and that makes it OK? xta fanboy

No, that means that when faced with jeffys vs flashes there are gonna be more flashes then jeffys. Jeffy buildtime= 4000 ish. Flash buildtime = 1500 ish. In a 1v1 the flash wins, and on top of that, the jaffy has about 900 hp while the flash has 1100. And the jeffy is more exspensive, costing 200 energy and about 10 more metal.
The scout is strong, but is inferior to the flash. The only good thing about it is it's speed! Maybe it can get to the base faster then a flash and attack erlyer then a flash sqwad would.
And if hes a xta fanboy, everyone on this forum is a fanboy of their own mod...
IF thats a bad thing, dunno?
Now, the qwestions...

Try it in internet play. You may like it. If you dont, you only have to remove 1 file. There isent much diffrence between the mods anyway...
2- How does your base (how many buildings) look early in the game energy and metal gathering wise, middle and end of game? Not your private strategy just a head up!
2 Solars or 4 winds, then 1 or 2 metal extraktor, then a factory, then get as many metal extraktor points and geo locations as posibole, then build defence, then do what you want...
Oh, and if you need more answears, this might come in handy...

thanks for the reply!!!
1- So the If I have couple of builder helping to build, it will speed up the construction, I will try that!
So the OTA is more balance than the regular game (or is OTA THE regular game), compare to XTA.
thanks

1 - Builders can also help factory's build units (important)
3 - There's a page (I think wiki) where the SY say what they wan't to do,
but there isn't a worked out plan of what the engien should be like.
4 - OTA is based on the regular TA game.
So it wasn't made for spring and won't be updated anymore.
XTA (standard) will be updated with spring.
There are a few other mods that are getting converted, to work with spring. Just lock around the mod forum.

More builders will build faster provided your metal and energy income can keep up, also they can help factories build units faster. Two extractors plus two solars plus a factory is the very early starting base, you need much more energy and metal to expand aggressively or build Advanced factories. The steamy things in some maps are Geothermal vents, you can build the Geothermal plant on them and they're a very important source of energy.
XTA is the official Spring setup, with Absolute Annihilation and OTA the next most popular. They are all *fairly* similar (but to an experienced player the difference is huge). XTA is supported by the SY's and likely the least buggy.
When those mods (or the one you like) start to bore you, there's the very different mods: Final Frontier, also the upcoming excellent World War Three mod "World Domination", also "Star Wars TA", and then "Minispring" that makes everything half size in any mod.

Each unit and factory builds at a different rate. Construction aircraft build the slowest, FARKs and Necros build the fastest. The speed at which something gets built is dependent on the total of the speeds of all the units contributing to the build. However, if you run out of metal or energy, it doesn't matter how many units are build-assisting, the limiting factor will be the availability of the most scarce resource. If you click on any unit or factory, you can see in the bottom left of the screen how much metal and energy it is using. The bars at the top show you your total income and outgoings for energy and metal. If you can't read the text it may be the screen resolution you are using - the display is optimised for 1024x1280 IIRC

To answer this question:
1. Try spectating on a few games and watch how people play, or
2. Watch some replays of old games and watch how people play (download replays from
http://www.fileuniverse.com/?page=listing&ID=114)
3. Any games you play are automatically recorded to a file called "test.sdf", make copies of these and you can review your own games and how your opponent played.
