performance issue

When i start playing the game, it runs fine (100-150 fps), but once the map gets abit populated my fps drops down to around 20. What could be causeing this problem
specs:
ATI 3870 grapics card
amd 2.3Ghz quad (yes i've set it to only use one core).
4 GB ddr 2 ram.
I've set all the settings to low, and i still only get around 20 fps, why is it so low?

how many units do you consider as populated ? 100, 500, 1000 ?
btw 2.3GHz Agena is not very suitable gamming cpu xD /even a 2.1GHz Conroe can beat Agena here/

I found shadows can cripple my 8800gts. I think it;s to do with setting the shadow map size too high...

if your using shadows put the texture size to 2048 Moa will eat ur fps alot
also decals will eat alot of fps
and turn off grass it eats fps and is fugly

as i mentioned befor, i've turned of all settings. now shadows nothing.
my guess is, as mentioned earlyer, its probably my cpu, since one of its cores is at 100% all the time.

What Lua widgets are you using? Maybe one of them is doing something silly?

Also make sure dynamic clouds is off.
