I had ultimate vista64 for about a month or two.
Compared to windows XP:
- spring crashes much more often (driver restart "crash")
- hardware cursor is not working in fullscreen mode
- there was some tasclient related bug - spring takes very long to start (not all vistas)

I cannot recommend it (back on XP now)

Which is probably because you were running ti abck whent he nvidia drivers were horsesh*t.

Ive ran Vista on my main computer in both 32 and 64 btis for a long time, and spring runs fine on 64bit. The gfx drivers have matured a lot and they're arguably better for mainstream hardware.

Remember XP is a 32bit OS, Vista is a 64bit OS, and any Vista 32bit distribution is just a 64bit OS recompiled. Vista was optimized and designed with 64bit Multicore systems in mind.

IIRC it was only in the last weekish that licho switched. I like vista though. Too bad Hyper-V is broken in causing massive gui lag, so I can't install it.

Yeah my experience is very recent, switched to XP yesterday. And I have gf8800gts512.

Also FPS were worse on vista but thats probably not surprising (not much though, about 10-20%).

I don't know, I am running vista ultimate and I can get up to 400 fps but then my video card is as huge as someones foot and cost about as much as a ps3 I think

And was that fps difference with Aero on or off?

For those on Vista, I wouldn't use the nvidia drivers on the nvidia site, guru3d ones are best as they're newer.

Also don't run as an admin under Vista as admin accounts invoke a 15-25% performance hit due to security and visualization measures.

Crashes = not since I turned off decals and updated my drivers very recently (3 weeks ago). No crashes.

Cursor problem = same here.

Tasclient slow loadup = same here. It takes at least 3 minutes. Springlobby starts instantly.

I tried with and without Aero but no diff for me.

Q6600, 7600GT, 2gigs. ~70 fps without lua shaders, ~40 fps with - on average when into a medium sized game.

Same here well, around july/august the nvidia drivers pretty much stablised for the original 8800 line up as far as i can tell, and have been getting slightly faster every release since

This isnt Vista specific, more likely to do with the number of maps you have
