i just want to say:
spring rank system is suck! (nothing personal to devs)

its freaking me out

it says nothing about player skill but it gives possibility to host to kick players because their rank is low even if they not noobs...

what im gonna do?? call down to duel every host who kicks me because of my low rank to prove them my skills??

or maybe i must await hours in lobby for host that does not kick low rank players?? (its very rare now)

**ck it!

we know.

one thing that was proposed was to rank players per mod/map/mod+map basis. the problem is that _any_ kind of ranking sucks and is prone to cheating.

you can host a game yourself, or join a game hosted by autohosts, some high ranked players don't like how noobs play (and they're right:) , however, you can always say that you're good and hope they belive you.

I think ladder ranking is most useful. It's still possible to cheat it, but it'd take a while and be boring so I doubt most people would.

General Rule of spring

if 1 stripe = noob or smurf

also being low rank is cool the higher the rank the more teams get stacked on you with autobalance :p

I'm probably one of the jerks that autospecs you.

I'm selfish - I like good games filled with experienced players. I don't care what any low rank player says about smurfing or whatever - if you want to play in my game, bring your real account so I can properly balance the teams.

Find an unselfish host and you got no probs 8)

If you are a true noob you can also spec games, what will give you gametime and help you rank up, while also teaching you how to play or comshare (tough nobody EVER EVER EVER comshares).

EVER

I wish I had the time to host games so I could spec :(

I don't know how the other online games ranking is managed but this one sucks yeah ! :?

Some "experienced players" still plays very bad after hours and hours and some low ranking learn very very fast

BETEPUHAP, suggestions on improvement rather than complaining are probably a good idea.

Cremuss, I agree but how can they fix it?

simple system:
you won = +1 point
you lose = -1 point

and show rank as number.

maybe it possible to make some "player effectiveness" statistic

Just show total wins and losses per mod.

Gathering that information in a secure manner is infeasible, unfortunately.

If people want to cheat they will find a way. No point worrying over it.

Now if you'll excuse me i'm off to continue dieing of gastroflu.

yeah, I agree, there is no way to fix that.

Maybe just show some statistics, hours spent, game wons, lost etc...
But its a waste of time cause the problem will not be solved :-)
Delete the ranking system is the only way

the current ranking system is about as good as can be expected. for the size of the community it works pretty well.

officially-sanctioned securely reporting ladder autohosts using dedicated server

You've seen some of the idiocy other games have with statwhores? People disconnecting on the slightest sign of losing to keep their stats up? People stacking teams because they no longer want fair games but games where they win 100% of the time? Stat whoring fake games where people repeatedly beat fake players to grind their score up?

Hell, wins/losses is kinda useless as a stat for determining player quality anyway, you can be pretty sure our top players prefer playing against people on their level and rack up many losses that way.

I personally only kick 1 stripes who don't communicate, new players who are able to have a chat and ask for help or explain why they're holding up the game start (map download!) are good with me; but when you get a 1 stripe join your game refuse to reply to any questions or only speak up to say "WTFF" and join leave join leave you know you have a problem...
