yes, a big pack that has all maps.
updated every week, maybe?
and a section for new maps on this week.. perhaps?
a good idea?

nope not a good idea unless you have 1/2 meg broadband and even so why would you want all the maps? most of them aren't that good!

well, actually yes ^^
but many of them are decent.
and when i would have them all then, i wouldn't need to go download them for a while...

We've already ahd this discussiona nd it was said that gnome and storm wherent willing to do it as it would be pointless and a waste of time and resources.

i kind of thought that maybe someone with access to the files on the server could pack them on a single file.
but yeah, it was kinda silly idea anyway

Not worth the trouble; just download them individually.
The SY's did mention that they were going to add some of the new maps into the next large filesize release of Spring.

.
. I agree with FU a big zip or rar file isn't the answer. I do like
the idea of a new maps of the week thing ...

Parhaps just make a page with the direct link to all maps. Then we can download all maps in a row with a good download manager.

No.
I already explained it once:
1. It's time, space and bandwidth-consuming.
2. Half of the maps aren't that good and the rest keep updating.
3. Once downloaded the megapack, would you reload it just because of a new map?
I've suggested a best-of five map pack, but people turned that down, so I didn't bother.

besides, come th next release they'll all be obsolete because of the new map format so they'll all be remade anyways

I remember download 400 maps from 4 different directories on 1 single server which took me about 3 days. So maybe eventually we could do with a bit of automation, but at the moment I don't think it's needed.

How about just having "must have" page with the desired maps (however many to download) as a list of links, going straight down? No extra bandwidth needed.

i think it would be a great idea. for new users or if youi got a new computer or if you just wanted to make sure you have all the maps. yeah it would probably suck for dial up users, but for high speed(go comcast!!) at 6 mbps it would be nothing.

I would say that the possibility to sort maps by the most often downloaded per week would be nice.

Or perhaps the spring server could be changed to allow a top 10 played maps, so we can see wether a maps downlaoded ebcause its played a lot or because it looked good...

Also tha twould eliminate the problem of maps being re download 20 times by every user because the maker keeps updating it...
Currently if you looked at it in terms of hits some maps have realy oddly high numbers, which will trick people into think that those are teh better maps when maybe there not. (thats not teh case for all the maps... some deserve the spot)

I'm thinking an RSS feed.
Also perhaps if there was a community webpage dedicated to showing those sorts of statistics, and the latest releases of tools and content with pictures and reviews maintained by the community.
