A question.

The Question:

What purpose does a biased moderator that moderates for the sole purpose of honing his ego by having his/hers victims pming him/her with "unmute me please" serve the community?

Conversation that took place after I got muted for 60000 seconds for saying the following in #main in reference to absurd mutings that took place moments before:
#main wrote:[10:09:30 PM] <[K]Regret> ENJOYING YOUR MASTURBATION???
[10:30:47 PM] <[K]Regret> can you please unmute me?
[10:31:11 PM] <FoeOfTheBee[KDE]> Will you relax and not be abusive in main?
[10:31:19 PM] <[K]Regret> i will try
[10:31:35 PM] <FoeOfTheBee[KDE]> let's give it try then
[10:31:41 PM] <[K]Regret> can you explain how i was abusive so i wont do it again?
[10:32:20 PM] <FoeOfTheBee[KDE]> Your insults went over a line
[10:32:40 PM] <[K]Regret> how and who did i insult?:S
[10:32:47 PM] <FoeOfTheBee[KDE]> it's subjective, so it's difficult to explain precisely
[10:33:09 PM] <[K]Regret> so basically you admit that your moderation was biased
[10:33:14 PM] <FoeOfTheBee[KDE]> I think you'll be fine if you're a bit careful
[10:33:30 PM] <FoeOfTheBee[KDE]> I admit that vulgarity is subjective
[10:33:37 PM] <[K]Regret> what vulgarity?
[10:33:43 PM] <FoeOfTheBee[KDE]> any
[10:33:53 PM] <[K]Regret> which part of my sentence did you find vulgar?
[10:34:07 PM] <[K]Regret> i want to refrain from making the same mistake
[10:34:10 PM] <[K]Regret> so please do expain
[10:34:13 PM] <[K]Regret> explain*
[10:34:18 PM] <FoeOfTheBee[KDE]> the insult itself was vulgar
[10:34:26 PM] <[K]Regret> what was the insult then?
[10:34:57 PM] <FoeOfTheBee[KDE]> mentioning bodily fluids, sex acts, and excrement is generally considered vulgar across all cultures
[10:35:17 PM] <FoeOfTheBee[KDE]> varies from person to person of course
[10:35:43 PM] <[K]Regret> so you mean i was muted for saying the word masturbation?
[10:35:51 PM] <FoeOfTheBee[KDE]> ingame...
Related observation:

-Since vulgarity is subjective, it's justifiable to mute for any word.

-Saying "your mom is useless bi***" is worth less mute time as saying the word masturbation. (1 hour in comparison with 16 hours respectively)

the difference is of course that in one case one player was insulting other player and in other case a player was insulting foeofthebee.

In third case i was insulting foeofthebee quite well but he couldn't justify a mute, so i didn't get muted, however there was

Code: Select all

[23:15:05] <FoeOfTheBee[KDE]> Maybe whining should be a muteable offense
[23:15:13] <FoeOfTheBee[KDE]> But it isn't yet, unfortunately
[23:15:14] <God> well its not
[23:15:19] <[K]dizekat> maybe muting should be a bannable offence
[23:15:22] <[]lennart> *autohost ..
[23:15:28] <[K]dizekat> when done for such reasons

Then they tell ya; "It's a family game, we can't have that kinda language here".
I cannot express this enough...
Spring is not a family game. It is for sad loners like ourselves who haven't got anything better to do and we couldn't give a truck of dying wombats about the word masturbation.

Harassing mods is enough for a mute or a kick.

YOU did not make spring, you own nothing packaged with spring, you haven't contributed to spring, you have no say in what EULA terms they want to enable.

snipa, maybe you didnt, but regret did make a mod (original mod i must add, that shooter with third person camera and stuff), and i'm contributing regularly (to springlobby).

Snipa has actually made a game for Spring, and you're all out of line.

sorry to snipa then. Somehow it so happens when someone's making like 4+ posts per day mostly in offtopic, i dont tend to think its some contributor. Anyways actually i did think he made something, judging by tone, hence the "maybe" to point out that i dont know he contributed anything same way he dont know other contributors.

I don't mean little things like mods o_o

I mean being a main dev, like JC or Tobi.

Edit: I should have said something more along the lines of "you haven't developed for spring" or something. I wasn't trying to imply that I had any leverage within Spring.

Notice also how we have like 15 Mods when only about 3 are needed.

I've noticed that, (And this might just be a timing issue) but that most mods don't even seem to ever play

Also, there really needs to be a clearer cut line for mute offenses (Saying BITCH! shouldn't carry a 6 HOUR mute).

Indeed. We need to draw some lines.
I mean we have a ToS but it doesn't include even half the information that should be in it.
We need some proper usage rules and the punishments attained if broken. Otherwise nobody knows where the boundaries are and it's just a ban, mute, slap, run rampage.

As far as I know the intention is for it to be tough, so we will keep having child-safiness keeping moderation :)

I think the lines are quite obvious, dont write any words you only ever use to insult someone, such as bit** or f***

But if you do want to insult someone, use child-safe words, they will have the same offensive impact.

Haha. That's a laugh, 'Child friendly' swear words, kids since the beginning of time swear more than adults because they're not supposed to and being that I doubt most 'kids' in spring are younger than 15 I don't think the odd FUCK is going to corrupt them.

How is this a problem, is it really that hard to avoid swearing? Even if, is really being unable to talk in #main so horrible?

Lies, kids are way more influentiable than people think, my brother made me dislike vegetables and fruits to this day by repeating all the time he didnt like then then I had like 2-3 years. What happens is that they are influentiated by teens than think that using the word f*** in ever sentence is cool and dont care for who is listening.
