Ubuntu directions are wrong - includes solution.

Short version:
1) Downloading within the lobby is broken (this is common?).
2) Directions say to put mods in ~/spring/mods/ - this does not work.
3) Putting mods in /usr/share/games/spring/mods/ *does* work.
This is in spite of the fact that the spring directory is configured to ~/spring/
Long version:
Went to: http://spring.clan-sy.com/
Clicked: Download.
Clicked: Linux Setup Guide.
Clicked: Ubuntu.
Installed via: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/spring/ubuntu gutsy main
Verified I have an up to date ubuntu gutsy install.
This installed: SpringLobby 0.0.1.10136
I downloaded a couple mods manually and put them in:
$ ls -l /home/darxus/spring/mods/
total 28268
-rw-r--r-- 1 darxus darxus 14582133 2008-09-16 21:19 BA632.sd7
-rw-r--r-- 1 darxus darxus 14319117 2008-09-17 04:52 Supreme_Annihilation_V155_1.sd7
I run springlobby.
Click okay (I had it remember my password).
I'm at the chat window, logged in successfully.
I click Single Player.
When I click to select a mod it doesn't list any mods.
So I click Options / Spring, and verify, yup, Spring directory = /home/darxus/spring/
This was not the default, so I also tried the default of /home/darxus/.
I click Play Online.
If I right click on any game and click "download map" or "download mod", I get icon in my web browser that says "PHPERROR!" and nothing else.
copied mods to /usr/share/games/spring/
got default cursor error
copied ota content to there as well
I'm getting the message:
"Please update your SpringLobby. A severe bug has been fixed that might cause desyncs in games."
The package in the Ubuntu deb source needs to be updated.
So I did in the end get to play single player Balanced Annihilation last night, and one of the the AIs actually worked, and I got to work two hours late today. I really appreciate all the work that has been put into this. I still have TA (from the commander pack) installed under windows. But this thing is still really user hostile.
