The Games Page

Ok the games page sia shambles, yet it is directly linked to from the front page in multiple palces. There are no images and its not user friendly.

This page should be mainly image based yet there are no images. Its a wall of text, remind you of anything?

I would suggest the following things:
  • Remove the whole mods games distinction and instead add a Total Annihilation Game and list the TA based mods under that, get rid fo the paragraph explaining the difference, its too long winded and complicated.
  • Each entry should have a big image and a tiny paragraph
  • How to install mods should not be a paragraph it should be a dedicated wiki page, as such it should probably have a big shiny box with "how to add games to an existing spring install" to the side linking to that page.
  • Remove the introduction
  • Games development should be turned into a large hyperlink leading to another wiki page
  • Ideally these games listed should link offsite to their respective web pages where they can focus the user exclusively on their content, and have tailored documentation to their content and its installation and procurement.
I was going to edit the page to show an example of image based listings of games but for some reason uploading of files is disabled and I cannot get an externally hosted file to show up as anything other than a link, which is a major roadblock to improving this site =/

tbh we need the image stuff sorting out sharpish, its quite a major flaw in the wiki as a site ethos.

Ideally, there should be a link to the game's website and another to the wiki page with all the information about it.

I'm working on it. In fact I sent Fnordia a message yesterday with new progress concerning the pages that are not the frontpage. Remember that the website is far from finished even if it has been "deployed" as you like to call it.

Edited: Implicitly, nobody said there weren't anymore milestones to reach and I assumed this at the very beginning of the story. I guess my message is not clear at all.

Well, seeing as I was responsible for doing a lot of the things that AF is complaining about on the games page before the site rollout, I should do some work to fix this. I might be able to do some work on the games page on the weekend, so watch this space. I don't have any images for the mods, but I can do some of those paragraphs.

On another note, EE page is also borked and needs fixing, especially with images and formatting.

Just to point it out, it's a wiki page, so anyone can help improve the page. So if you want to contribute something, acctual edits on the page are probably better than forum posts telling people what to edit.

Ideally I'd like to set it up like a wikilist. You have the list of games at the top and then tonnes and tonnes of mini articles with screenshots and summaries lower in the page hotlinked from the list. One way or another, more images are needed.

Just put in new formatting for the games page, however, the page still needs pictures and brief descriptions for each game.

Games shouldn't be listed by alphabetic means, but by popularity, since there is nothing more annoying that downloading something only to find 1 game hosted on that mod and over 9000 hosting the most popular mods.

That means people are MUCH less likely to try any of the other projects. Not something I am willing to get behind.

Well I think a new player probably doesn't have the patience to wait for hours for a game where they get to play for 10 minutes before getting raped.

by that definition they will never play anything. The same bullshit happens in BA except the noob also gets screamed at.
