Radars

I have been trying my hand at wings a little bit and I was inspired by others doing more "high poly" TA models, so here are some Radars I had a go at.

Core Radar Jammer
Image
6 Objects, 448 Faces, 912 Edges, 492 Vertices.

Arm Radar Jammer
Image
4 Objects, 252 Faces, 520 Edges, 280 Vertices.

Arm Radar
Image
4 Objects, 248 Faces, 518 Edges, 282 Vertices.

Core Adv Radar
Image
4 Objects, 651 Faces, 1323 Edges, 712 Vertices.

I know they probably aren't up to the standards of others but I can only try. So what do you guys think, give them some constructive criticism. Also what do you think of the sizes of them? Are they to big? Could they be even more high poly. Feel free to make suggestions.

Also if you want to use them id be honored(though I do not expect that at this point).

A lot of those extra faces and protrusions look unnecessary. They add unnoticeable detail and complexity to the model, while the base form and structure of the models remain almost exactly the same as their OTA origins.

Wings users really like extruding everywhere, eh?

Beginners do.

Quick model, ok, so this just uses 117 faces, your version uses 651, now I can tell you, at playing distance they will look almost exactly the same, keep that in mind when you model, it's not that you can't use more poly's then what I made, it's how you use them.

That was one of my fears, that the models are too high poly for not enough pizzazz. Saying that though even MR.D's really nice models at a distance can be hard to tell how flash they are. What I thought was that when you zoom in for a nice close view of your units you can be like wow look at my nice detailed units(not saying mine are that) but that's what I thought was the aim of the +1 units.

I do understand a good texture can be used to create a lot of detail and is very important on any model.

I do think the Arm Radar models are a lot better than the Core versions but for what I was trying to achieve with my limited modeling experience i saw no way around it.

Anyway do you have any suggestions on how to make these high ploy nice looking models that aren't wasting any polys.

You could work through the entire WIP thread. There's lots of useful information in it.
