Thats just stupid, if the relationship has downgraded to the point of clobbering there is no point in there being a relationship at all. I dont remember if divorce is allowed in islam, think not, but just because the marriage cant be broken officially doesnt means they cant pratically.

Islamic countries are somewhat open on divorces. All it takes is the man saying 3 times in a row something like 'I don't want you to be my wife anymore' (exact wording isn't important), and if there were some witnesses who can confirm this indeed happened, then according to Sharia law it's done. However not many women will want this to happen - there are like 0 possible sources of income for a woman in those countries except for her husband, women aren't allowed to work and there are a lot of other restrictions.
And also there is a saying that goes like that: "He beats me, that means he loves me".

You dont need to have a religion to be positive, and I actually think its easier to be positive winhout one... if you have a religion you are always worried because you arent doing everthing exactly like you should, but if you dont you dont worry because you dont NEED to do anything. (personal experience)

I'm sure there are plenty of Islamic clerics out there that disagree with this guy.
