i think the way maps end is really ugly

this is really fail imo, it would be cool if the terrain continues and fades out, something like that, but it should be clear where the real map ends, maybe with a box around it or something like that, i think it would look much better

I know this is old, possibly MTR even?

Seriously, it couldn't possibly be hard to implement something like this with either lua or engine code?

EDIT: In fact, could the fog widget be modded to draw fog outside of the map boundary?

Indeed. This is one of the few things I felt looked downright ugly about Spring.

I think I'd prefer a fog overlay as opposed to a continued map that can't be scrolled to. Makes it much easier for the mappers and, as Revenge said, a fog script could probably just be modded and spare the developers some work.

Problem with fog is making it play nice with they skybox. If SM3 mega-scale maps were available, simply defining a small rectangle as the "playable area" that units/orders can happen within would be nice... but the existing maps are smallish for that sort of thing.
